Coil whine in one of the components?

Hello. So as the title says I have coil whine. The situation is this. I only have it when I play games which are more demanding for the gpu I guess. But it is fine when I play less demanding games or none at all. So I had my GPU warranty check it out, but they stated that everything is fine. So the question is what can cause the coil whine? PSU? Mobo? I tried removing the gpu and playing the same game without out it and there was no coil whine, also the sound is coming from the gpu as far as I believe. Can it be that the psu is causing the coil whine to appear in the gpu or smthin like that?

If you need any additional info do not hesitate to ask :) ty in advance.

It might be power supply too. Because when playing something demanding, it will have to draw more power for the gpu and cpu.
And when listening, it can sound like it would come from gpu, especially when the psu is at the bottom of case, near the gpu.

EDIT. I haven't heard that Gigabyte 970 would have coil whine, so I would say the psu is higher possibility.

Sorry this isn't an answer but i'm in the same boat as you are. Built my system and in all demanding games loud coil whine which sounded like it came from the psu. When using integrated graphics instead of gpu no coil whine at all. so i replaced it with an seasonic made psu (assuming my old unit was faulty) which i installed about 3 days ago. It still has loud high pitch coil whine and i am 90% sure it is coming from the psu. It is driving me insane and i have no clue whether it is just bad luck with psu's or another component causing it. (again sorry for the little rant)

Well I just checked the loads on my gpu on two different games and they were 30% and 50% and I could hear it. It was quieter than usually but still I could hear it.

davmazin, I sure do hope that it doesn't effect any other components in any bad way in the long run then it is not that much of a problem just the quietness problem. Might need to put the PC somewhere further away from my monitors 😀

make a tube from some paper, then listen to each component individually through the tubewhile the whine is in progress. it isolates the sound so you can actually hear which one is responsible.

And i have a g1 970, mine only whines at 4k fps (there was a loading screen once) and during the WEI test. Never in actual use or stress testing

some advise leaving it sitting in a whine inducing scene for a few hours to burn it in, but meh, if its bad enough to sound through case, send it back to where you bought it with directions for how to induce the whine, and ask to swap.

Coil whine is only resonation in the component. So, it won't cause another part have coil whine.
And while coil whine can be annoying, it is nothing to worry about. It does no harm.

Coil whine does not seem to cause any problems for the components that are making the whine. The only problem with coil whine is that ugly (or cute) human being sitting next to the computer. Their ears do not like the noise.

Most companies will replace products with coil whine. They do want you to be happy with the product.

Heh. Well good to hear that it doesnt cause any issues to the PC it self. Tried listening to where it comes from and I'm really confused now. It's either the psu or gpu or both 😵

It can be both just as well. If one does it, it may not be all that audible, but when there are 2 parts which do it, the sound becomes way more refined.
