I got a new monitor recently and I've noticed that It has some pretty noticeable color banding when there is a gradient. At first I thought it was the monitors problem so I changed almost all the monitor settings I could, including the color settings in the Nvidia control panel, and it didn't help. I decided to connect my monitor with an HDMI cable instead of a displayport cable and the color banding was gone, proving that this is not the monitor's problem. The issue with this is that my monitor is 1440p at 144hz and the HDMI could only output 1440p at 75hz.

I don't know if this could be the displayport cable being funky or if displayport is just like that, I have a dual monitor setup and my old Dell monitor has none of these color banding issues. Every time I see color banding on my new monitor, I compare it to my other monitor and it has none.

I currently have a GTX 1050 2GB but I am very soon upgrading to a GTX 1070. I have read that this issue could be caused by the graphics card but I'm going to have to wait and see.

Well I would say it likely has to do with the monitor running at the lower refresh rate that got rid of the color banding, so it certainly could still be the monitor that is causing it. Try running the monitor at 75hz with the DP cable and see if it's still there, if it is it could be a bad DP cable, does it have the display port trademark written on the cable itself?

I've already tried lowering the refresh rate with the display port and still get the color banding. The DP cable has a trademark on it, but I'm still suspecting that the DP cable is bad.

I live in China, and to be honest, I don't know what the name of the monitor even is. I'm sure the name is somewhere but It's probably in Chinese. I know that the company is SongRen and that it is fairly popular here. The reviews of the monitor seem to be very positive and none of them stated anything bad about it. Here in China it's really hard to get a product from a credible company unless you want to pay much more than the original price.

I think SongRen is actually not bad as we have a TV from them which is great. I'm sorry I can't tell you what monitor it is.
