Hi

Have xp
geforce 3 128MB using XP Det 23.11.
Syncmaster 753 17" Monitor.

Twice in the last week while my PC has been on'but the Monitor off'when the Monitor has been turned back on'the colors on the Display are messed up.

The middle of the Screen is Green and nearer the edges is Pinkish.

A Shutdown and reboot seems to fix'but whats causing it?
Thanx

You have something that is generating a magnetic field near your monitor that is affecting the mask of your monitor. When you power up the degauss function is enabled and demagnetizes the mask, making the colors pure again.

Possibly yes. If the magnetic field is strong enough, it could magnetize the mask to the point where the degauss function no longer has the strength to remove it.

I have had one customer put a bar magnet up to the front of the monitor. It caused a permanent discoloration so bad that he had to buy another monitor.

Interestingly enough, a lightning strike near my parents house completely wrecked their monitor in that way - screen had a heavy pink hue in the lower right corner.

Permanent discoloration? Wow! I've had some fun with monitors and magnets, but was never stupid enough to push it that far. Did you respond: "I'm sorry sir, that falls under the ID10T category. You may be too incompetent to use a monitor."
