[SOLVED] Colourful squares when card is under load

Earlier today my card (Sapphire RX480 8Gb Nitro+) overheated while playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and I started getting severe artifacting and swiftly closed the game. Now in every game I get lots of coloured squares and sometimes black dots flashing for a single frame and disappearing. I have manged to capture a couple of examples. I'm guessing this means the card is crippled as my other GPU (another 480) runs the same games just fine after swapping the cards. However, I'd like to know if this is definitely the case and what the problem might actually be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A couple of screenshots I managed to get:

Did you try a DDU reinstall of the drivers and testing the GPU in another system? If the GPU does that in another system it would mean that the GPU is slowly dying.

I had 2 GPU's in my life that started doing that. After a while it's worst and one day your PC just doesn't post anymore. So make sure to test that GPU in another system to be sure it's the GPU.

I'll look into getting it tested in another system but as I don't have anything else capable I'll probably have to convince a friend. I didn't try a DDU as I just went with it when the spare (ex mining) card worked fine. The motherboard, CPU and PSU are going to be replaced in the next few months anyway even if they aren't the problem

Update, tested the card in another system and exactly the same problem. Seems like its actually crippled which isn't ideal considering the current stock situation. Hope my spare card can hold out until things improve. I checked the fans, they were both fine. Its a mystery to me how it actually overheated as its never done that before. Thanks for your help. It's still got me wondering what actually failed in the card though.

You will proobably never know; dealt with a much less serious but similar problem on a late friends PC many years ago (GTX660): In his case some small un-monitored part of the card was getting too hot and causing pink squares and other pink colored defects. Temporary solution for his was to open the case for more airflow while awaiting a new card with better cooling. His card worked fine for several days in my case that has great air flow.
Glad you tracked it down, good luck with your new card.
