Gurus: I'm a newbie to wireless networking, please help.
My Comcast service is speed tested at D/L speed 30MBPS and U/L is 6MBPS when I connect Ethernet port by hard wire from modem straight into laptop and test the speed. BUT, when I disconnect the cable and run the speed test via the WIFI network, it's only 10MBPS (D/L) and 3 MBPS (U/L), so clearly, my router isn't doing a good job. It's a cause of slower video playback on my devices.
I'm using a MOROROLA 'Surfboard' Modem+Router combo for the past 3 years (Spent about $120 when I bought it), so I purchased D-Link dual Band router for $30 from Walmart recently and tried to broadcast the WIFI signal via the new Router by utilizing a hard wire connecting the Surfboard to new router. To my surprise, there is no connectivity to internet via the new router device while the computer is positively wirelessly connected to the new router, the D-link is not communicating to the Surfboard.
Do I have to call Comcast and they will have to do the bridge for me? or am I completely off-track trying to make something undo-able. Please help. Thanks.
