Greetings, I"m looking into a new build and I'd appreciate comments on it.
the case is Antec Two Hundred, psu is a antec 550w, there are 4 hdds. all of these are from the previous build.
the following are new:

  • ■cpu: AMD RYZEN7 2700 (Gen2)
    ■mb: ASUS - PRIME-A320M-A
    ■memory: HyperX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666Mhz CL16 - 1.2V - 288Pin - HyperX FURY Black DDR4 Series - HX426C16FBK2/32
    ■gpu: SAPPHIRE PULSE Radeon™ RX560 2GB DDR5
    ■hsf: Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4

any thoughts on this build?

I use vms, compilation and number crunching at the same time, 32Gb memory will make the experience better.
yeah, seasonic, evga, no so much.
which seasonic would you recommend?

Almost any Seasonic will do, as long as it provides enough power. Just note a handful of models are older and therefore don't handle certain sleep modes of the CPU very well.

after looking int the options and taking into account the price, I'm down to these two psus:

    ■ Seasonic FOCUS 550 Gold FM-550 550W
    ■ Antec EA550G-Pro

the Seasonic is more expensive (not by much). warranty is the same (7 years)
any reason to pick the Seasonic over the Antec?

It would be within your best interest to take the additional money spent on 32gb of system memory and invest in a better motherboard, for an 8 core 16 thread processor. What was your previous system like? Did you use all of the system memory in your compute tasks? The b450 is going to have better power delivery and better memory frequency support, to ensure your processor is properly fed. It's easier to upgrade the memory, as opposed to swapping out your motherboard because you later find out the processor isn't performing to expectations. Remember you get what you pay for. Can you pair a R7 with an a320? Yes, but that's not something myself and other forum members recommend. After all, isn't our recommendations the reason for your post?

if you look at the comment I've made at December 14, 2018 12:26:45 AM you'll see that I've decided to go with the b450 and a faster memory per the recommendations here. I did listened to you guys, in fact, that made me go and review my calculations to see if I can increase the budget a bit so I can upgrade the mb only to find that my calculations were wrong and that I had a higher budget than thought initially.

my current setup uses all the system resources available.

Both are good units. So, I'd say that it really comes down to price. There's no harm in going for the cheaper of the two. The Antec should serve you quite well in this case... I'd say just go for the cheaper of the two at the time you order it.

for some reason, the amazon page for both PSU says that Seasonic is better by far, I wonder how to address this, is there a good site that reviews such things which I can look at?

There's one thing to remember about "consumer reviews" on websites. Sometimes, not always, they are rigged either by the seller, by the competition, or in some rarer instances, fan-boyism, to make a product look better or worse. Sometimes, and this one is more likely in this case than the first one, Some people don't know jack or enough, therefore operator error, or ignorance on a product, is reflected in reviews.

As to professional reviews, they can have their caveats too. Some places just reiterate marketing for their review, some play favorites for one reason or another.

The first place I'd look though is jonnyguru.com. They are pretty unbiased in their power supply reviews. Here at Toms, is also usually a good place too. Anandtech.com is good as well. kitguru.net and HardwareSecrets.com aren't bad sources either. Just pay attention that you are looking at the exact same model, or at the very least, the same family of PSUs.

after thinking about it, the hsf is a major overkill, ideally the stick one would have been ok but it comes with leds...
I'm looking of a good replacement without leds, any suggestions?
can arctic and be quite models are good for amd? (I used arctic for intel without any issue)

It does yes, but without the led lead connected the amd logo & outer ring still light, the fan doesnt

To turn everything off you connect the led header on the prism to a USB port instead of to a rgb header, download the prism software

http://www.coolermaster.com/amd-ryzen-wraith-prism-rgb-software/

You can then turn off all the led lighting.

slight problem, I don't run windows

another thing I don't understand, I was recommended to get a memory with high speed to I took 3200mhz, the mb's spec states that it supports 3200mgs (O.C.) does that means I'll see benefit only when OCing the setup?

so after looking for bargains and asking around, I think I've been able to maximize the budget.
here is what I'm looking at:

  • ■cpu: AMD RYZEN7 2700X (Gen2) - 8 Cores, 16 Threads - 3.7/4.3Ghz - 105w TDP - 12nm – Tray
    ■mb: Asus PRIME-B450M-A
    ■memory: Corsair DDR 4 32G (16Gx2) 3200 CL16 Vengeance LPX Black
■hsf: Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 CPU Cooler Special Edition for AM4
    ■gpu: Radeon Shappire RX 560
    ■disc: LG DVDRW X24 SATA
    ■psu: Antec 550W Pro 80Plus Gold - Modular - EarthWatts GOLD

looks ok compatibility wise? especially cpu + mb + memory?

just for clarification, this isn't another user hijacking my thread, I was able to regain access to my old account, this one I've used as alternative.
remarks will be appreciated thought.
