Comments on my Spec..and Help!

Hi everyone! i am a new member here at THGC and there is so much information here about computers! anyways..i just moved to malaysia to study from Thailand and i recently purchased a computer i hope would be sufficient for my gaming needs(which are quite high considering i love computer games with nice graphics) and therefore i was wondering if you guys would spend a few minutes letting me know if this computer needs any changes (that are possible) and if i made the right choices..and if not why and anything i can do about it. currently...its playing perfectly fine with beautiful graphics on high settings of FREELANCER and DEltaforce BHD..but Neverwinter nights lags a bit (the ram maybe?) well here goes---thanks for all the help!!!

Yes, your ram is a problem. The board will give dual channel mode if you stick in another stick of ram.

Your RAM certainly wouldn't slow neverwinter nights. That game can run on a 400 Mhz machine.

From what I hear NWN doesn't like Radeons too much, but I believe that Bioware has released a Radeon patch. You should check out the NWN forums and ask around.

Oterwise, your system is a fine gaming rig. If you have spare cash I'd get at least 512 megs of RAM first.

Your processor will then become your limiting factor, no real hurry to upgrade it right now but that's the thing I'd look to upgrade after you have more RAM.

400mhz? You gotta be kidding...My celeron 300 overclocked to 450(128mb ram) run it like slideshow on lowest quality...

Anyway agree on that patch part, NWN need a patch to run properly on Radeon, my new rig lags a bit before i install the latest patch.

A Celeron 450 is not quite up to par with a PII 450 or especially a PIII 450. Celerons usually perform about far greater than 1/3 less than what their representative model number suggets. In fact, the MHz on celerons, is MUCH less accurate than the model numbers on AMD AXP processors, which isn't very accurate itself anymore these days.

Well, a 450 Mhz is the min spec for NWN, so the Athlon 2000+ sure as hell isn't slowing the game down.

I've played it smooth as silk on my old 1.2 Ghz. Gotta be the radeon problem.

Back in the old days, 300mhz celeron was the first to have on-die cache, once change FSB from 66 to 100, u get performance between P2 400 to P2 450. Those days the celeron truely rules the overpriced P2.

256mb Ram will be the bottleneck any day when you gaming on Xp system.

The CPU is fine, when you want more juice just overclock it since tBred(B) has amazing overclocking ability.

Xp "chokes" a bit when you have 256mb or less...although i like to set my xp visual to max :tongue: .
