Hi guys,

This is a very specific question but hopefully will be able to help. When I purchased my laptop a few months ago I upgraded a few parts. I upgraded the Hard Drive and the optical drive and asked for the distributor to send me the original parts (as I had paid extra for the upgraded parts).

The laptop that I bought was an ASUS N550JK - DS71T

The distributor sent me a hard drive and an optical drive but I do not believe they are the parts that originally came with the laptop.

The parts they have sent me are as follows:

DVD DRIVE
Make: Panasonic
Model: UJ8G6

HARD DRIVE:
Make: Seagate
Model: ST1000LM024

I have had a very difficult time trying to find out what parts this laptop should have had. I've called ASUS, Panasonic, etc and have been unable to find very much information at all. Does anyone know how to find out what optical and hard drive an ASUS N550JK - DS71T should have?

I was given some information regarding what DVD drives are used which apparently would be:

Make: Panasonic
Model UJ8E2

If that is the correct model that is used on these machines then can anyone please tell me what the difference is between UJ8E2 and a UJ866 dvd drive? Which is newer / superior etc as I have looked and really have no idea.

ok, thanks for your time guys.

Good lord man, I would be highly surprised if somebody comes along with this super-detailed information.

If you are replacing them, why is it important for you to know what they were? and you don't seems to know the performance you are replacing anyways.

Is not unusual for vendors to give you slightly different parts as long as the specs are similar. Once in a blue moon, somebody finds out oh, version2 of this part runs cooler than version1 and insists the vendor ship them with the version2 part, but vendor are not obligated to do so, they may tell you, if you don't get version2, just return it.
