Compaq Presario desktop want boot

have compaq presario desktop serial num U244LB4ZA324 with windows xp home edition when i turn on it goes to compaq screen and that's it there is option f8 to boot and f10 recovery neither does anything help I have also put in Windows xp cd to boot from it but can't

You have to go to BIOS settings. It may be any key like del, f12, f1, f2,f10 etc try it. When you get to bios setup first reset it to defaults. Now go to boot section, you can see the boot priority. Change the boot priority of the CD drive to first followed by the hard drive..

Now you can boot form CD/DVD or hdd

Please provide more info like Presario number like that. Serial number is of no use.
