Question Comparing intel CPUs / purchasing questions

Heyo!
So after bringing my PC to a computer repair place I’ve learned that my intel i7-14700K got warped because of overheating, a problem the technician told me was a fault of intel due to the fact that they told motherboard manufactures that the 13th and 14th gen CPUs can pull more power then they can actually handle…
The technician recommended that I just scrap both my CPU (mandatory) and my mother board and get an AMD chip and compatible motherboard. Unfortunately I don’t have that much money and can’t afford to get both things new.
Essentially, my question is should I just run it back and get a new intel processor? Would that be foolish/ should I expect the same thing to happen? If I get a new one is there inherent risk in getting the same one? Is intel planning to drop a new processor soon that might reduce the price of previous models?
Worth noting that I use this pc for both work and gaming, so I understand that something like an i5 might not be enough, but I’m not totally sold on that.
Apologies for the long list of questions, the main thing I’ve learned is to never throw out a box again…

Depends, how bad is the damage to the board's socket? The only way I see a PCB warp is due to excessive heat/power consumption/input, by my crude understanding. Even after that you need to also understand that your board might've also been part of the problem, not just the processor, so you're likely looking at buying a new processor while retaining onto the old board, ending up in the same boat you're in(again) now and then go buy an AMD board and processor combo, which in my opinion is going to burn a hole in your wallet, larger than what has already been burnt through it now.

TL,DR;
Get the AM5 platform without wasting time.

Added bit of info, I've never read/seen reports of the PCB for the processor warp, so that's something I might need to read into.

The guy at the shop seemed to imply that I could just get a new chip, perhaps warping isn’t the best way of putting it

Intel has supposedly extended the warranty for those cpus so you should check to see if yours in eligible for a warranty exchange. If you can get a new cpu for free then you could try installing it before spending money on a new amd system. And also update your motherboard's bios which will help prevent you from burning out your new cpu.
