HI, this is my first time building a gaming pc - or any pc for that matter, and I am having difficulty figuring out if everything will be compatible and choosing a mobo/cpu; help would be greatly appreciated and any suggestions to change out parts would be very helpful as well, thanks in advance.

PS: My budget is $500ish (ish = for taxes)
PPS: I am looking to play skyrim and writing documents exceeding 1000 pages

Help choosing mobo/cpu and wondering if they are compatible, Thanks!

Motherboard: ASUS Z77-A LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Price: $79.99

Processor: Intel Core i5-3350P Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.3GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 69W Quad-Core
Price: $179.99

or

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD
Price: $74.49

Processor: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core
Price: $119.99

and the rest of build is the same
Would it be compatible with both of the mobo/cpu combos above?

Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready
Price: $24.99
Will this be enough power?

RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Price: $89.99

Graphics Card: ASUS GTX650TI-OC-2GD5 GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready
Price: $139.99

Tower: Unsure

FINAL
ASUS Z77/i5-3350p and rest of build
Price: $514.95

ASUS M5A97/AMD FX-6300
Price: $449.45

Thanks!

with that GPU the amd fx processor will be enough and its cheaper so pick the amd cpu

and for skyrim you should run it on high-max with no trouble unless you mod it like crazy with enb and highres textures

if you plan to upgrade to a new graphics card in the future and play more demanding games ... then the intel cpu will be a better investment

Why not 1150 build?

mATX mobo is bit cheaper.

I think better buy is AMD 8 core cpu 8120 or 8150.

Rosewill cappstone is outstanding psu. Really good quality and long warranty.

Good quality tower is bitfenix ghost.

Ah not anymore at 70$ price.
So then look other cheaper case. Fractal R4 is good option.
Corsair 200 and 300R is good cheap option.
Tractal core 3000 is good too.

Souda: So are you saying that the fx build won't be able to support skyrim mods? Like say 10-15 smaller mods and dlc? Also the mobo for fx won't be able to upgrade to a better graphics card later? Thanks.

AxlFone: The intel i5-4440 has an integrated graphics card, isn't that the harder kind to install discrete? I have a i5-2720qm with a pcie slot that I just can't get to work with a gtx 650 ti. Also, is the AMD 8 socket obsolete? It was originally my choice processor, however, I've read on the forums that it is negligible to fx 6300? I will defininetly buy a better psu and I like the corsair 200 - will look into that some more. Thank you.

mods like enb and high res texture replacement mods will really stress your pc
things for example that add a ton of npc to cities and trees and things like that will also stress your pc alot
light mods / effect mods also stress your pc from small for low quality to ALOT for high quality ones

small mods however like ones that change arrows speed/damage overhauls crafting / add new crafting schemes and so on will have no effect on performance

about the mobo its pci e 2.0 not 3.0 while its compatible with 3.0 cards you might just want to pick one that is pci e 3.0 so you wont run into any bottlenecks due to low bandwidth especially if you pick the 280x or upgrade in a couple of years

so just think about it ... will you be sure you wont play a different game than skyrim ? and wont mod it alooot ?
if the answer is yes then just stay with amd
if no go with intel
