compatibility of drr4

The specs on my i5-7500 says that it can only take ddr4 2133 and 2400; what would happen if i put a faster ddr4 on my motherboard?(my motherboard can use up to 3866 but not intend to get that far)

the memory controller embedded into the CPU will force the RAM to the slower speeds.
the CPU being locked means the memory controller is locked.
I would only suggest faster RAM if and when you replace the CPU to one that can use the speed
