Compatibility of DVI-D dual-link monitor and DVI-I dual-link input (2005) Dell Dimension 5100

Will a DVI-D dual-link monitor cable work with the DVI-I dual-link input on 2005 Dell 5100 Dimension? Will upgrade video card if necessary.

I read monitor's 144 Hz may not be reached w/o all 24 of comp's DVI-I pins enabled.
Will also max out video card w right guidance as this is a good old machine.
