Compatibility of gpu with my pc and will installing new gpu require formatting?

My hardware specs
cpu - i5-4690
ram - 16gb ddr3
mobo - gigabyte z97m d3h
psu - 450w
os - win 7 64bit

I have this pc from 2 years but i wasn't able to buy a gpu before. Now that i can buy it, my question is "Will installing a new graphics card require/promt the need of formatting the hdd?". Even if formatting is required will it require wiping all the hdd instead of a specific partition?

Also will gtx 1050ti or gtx 1060 fit well with my specs{with the hardware being 2.5years old and all}?
If these gpus are not suitable, please tell me which will be.

No HDD formatting is necessary after adding discrete graphics card.
Gtx 1050ti/gtx 1060 would be great improvement of gaming performance for your PC.
To use those graphics cards good quality PSU is necessary (300W for gtx1050ti, 400W for gtx1060).
What is brand/model name of your PSU?

no, you do not need to re-format or re-install windows.
yes you can simply install a new GPU, and the drivers too.

either of those two gpus' will be fine with your system. the 1060 would be the better choice, and would be a nice balanced system with it in your pc.

I seen quite a few having to resort to reinstalling there OS

this new latest hardware just sucks for compatibility - its just about a joke anymore and the term plug and play device means nothing today

I think i'll make my choice between 1050ti and 1060 depending on the local price{as overpricing is common here}.
I wanted to try win 10, so after installing gpu, will changing the os be alright?

being you got a z97 platform that card should not be a issue to use , but cant hurt to see if theres a bios offered that adds pci-e/ vga compatibility

don't see one so should be plug and play with the 10series cards

thst between you and Microsoft with the malware called win- 10 you do as they want not as you want . lots regret screwing up ther old OS's like 7 for it ?/ then I guess you will know after that fact if you like it or not . I know I would not do it ,but that's just me

Thanks for the link its really useful{i didn't know about it before}. I personally dislike win10 but the only reason im considering it is because of dx12 and upcoming optimisation { http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-is-working-on-a-big-directx-12-gpu-driver-update/ }. I think i'll decide depending on how the situation is after installing gpu.
