I'm looking for a new cpu in the $200-$300 price range thats compatible with my rx 580. My board is currently the asus b350-plus, and my current cpu is a ryzen 2200G with the vega graphics card. I like the ryzen line, and it worked for my first build but im trying to aim for higher performance, something that can do battlefield V and hell let loose. Any recommendations?

You could get a Ryzen 5 2600 ($148 US) or 2600x ($179 US) and 16 GB RAM for under $300 US total.
But you would need to update to BIOS 3803 or newer first.
Personally I would update to Version 4207 which adds AGESA 1.0.0.6 which at least on my MB works best with Ryzen 2000 cpus and has good RAM compatibility and OC ability.
The newer versions with AGESA 0070 seem to have issues with cold booting and RAM OCing at least on my MB.

And if you are going to upgrade to more RAM, you should be able to find one for around $100.
I would recommend you get a 3000 MHz or 3200 MHz 16 (2x8) GB kit listed on the Asus QVL:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...-QVL-for-AMD-Ryzen-2000-Series-Processors.pdf

This will give you an idea of what performance you should get with a R5 2600 and an RX 580:
