To get to the point freezing looks like this: (Seizure warning) https://imgur.com/a/gPMkrRQ
Specs like so:

  • - CPU: i7 6700k
    - GPU: GTX 980TI (its not connected during this crash, this happens on integrated graphics)
    - PSU: Corsair HX850i
    - MOBO: EVGA Z270 CLASSIFIED K
    - RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 4X8GB 2400mhz
    - Storage: 120gb KINGSTON SSD, Samsung 860 EVO 1TB and a 1.5TB HDD. (OS installed on the 120gb)
Alright now to the body of the issue, it started after I installed a new SSD, Samsung 860 EVO 1TB.
With the GPU in I don't get these weird artifacts, I only freeze up on the current image and my headphones play weird loud static noises.
I took the GPU out to rule it out hardware wise and well got this freeze instead which I am honestly just clueless on how to proceed.
I have no clue what could be at fault at this point.
Things I have done:

  • - Checked temps ( they're fine, 30-45C idling to 100% load).
    - Initially with the GPU in I've tried reinstalling nvidia drivers several times, new ones, old ones, the ones on the CD that comes with it, with DDU, without DDU, everything really
    - Tried updating all of the motherboard drivers off the EVGA site.
    - Wiped CMOS.
    - Flashed latest BIOS.
    - Formatted the 120gb SSD and reinstalled OS.
    - Tried ruling out the new samsung SSD, unplugged it on old OS , on new OS
    - Took out GPU.
    - Updated all drivers from the default ones windows installs on a fresh OS.
    - Tested for Skylake bug with Prime95.
    - Flashed old BIOS in which they fixed the Skylake bug.
Things that I'll mention:

  • - I do not have any spare parts I could use to rule out other hardware.
    - Freezes happen randomly, could be 20 minutes could be 7h.
    - I have not been able to simulate this crash load wise.
    - By that I mean I've run Prime95 and Furmark simultaneously through the night and didn't experience a crash.
    - It only happens when gaming a specific game ( Black Desert Online) , which unfortunately is the only game I play..
    - PSU and MOBO are relatively new, less than half a year which 2 months of that was completely unused cause I was away for summer.
Any hints on how to progress?

i would say the best thing to do now is to try on a different monitor. whatever you can do to get of that display. but if this doesn't work (medium chance it wont) best practice i usually find with trouble shooting is to remove all unnecessary components so i would say remove all drives but the boot drive and see if it works. the problem with the issue persisting on onboard graphics is that it should be limited to the cpu (not likely) or the motherboard. if you could (long stretch) potentially ask to get a replacement board under warranty or ask if this issue is common or is a known issue for that board.

I have two displays, it happens on both.
Alright sounds good, I'll send in a ticket to EVGA first thing when I wake up.
Currently setting up memtest86+ and gonna run it overnight.
Already running on minimal drives, only thing I can remove is some sticks of RAM which will be the next step I guess.
Will update on results.

Update 2 : Not exclusive to Black Desert Online after-all, crashed during FurMark.
GPU at 50C at time of crash, shouldnt be a problematic temperature unless theres some defect in the card itself?

Update 3:
I tried different boot drive, completely fresh OS.. still crashes.
I have also tried disabling integrated graphics from bios, again nothing, still crashing.
If it is an software issue its not from integrated graphics I guess is what that tells me..
