That’s too bad. I dont consider having the last say a benefit because I enjoy a good discussion, especially between generation benders. You said its a common tactic to make a completely insupportable statement and turn it into sublime humor. I agree I use unrealistic situations or comments as a form of humor, but I would not call it sublime.... infact that is kind of arrogant in my opinion. Each person has their own idea of what is humor and what makes them laugh. There is no godlike knock knock joke, nor is there a sublime riddle that appeals to everyone.

But you were trying to spin the conversation. I have a very valid point, which was that aging does not bring wisdom... infact aging only brings one thing..... old age. DaSickNinja said a while back that a new poster should just look at the number of posts one has to determine if they know what they are doing... This is a good analogy.

You can not prove you have gained wisdom, knowledge, or humanity, here on a forum,... nor should you need to. With great wisdom comes great humility.

Since this is a new topic I'll respond.

False assumption that age does not bring wisdom. Completely untrue, not only untrue, I can gaurentee you one who has lived 5 years will not have the wisdom of one who has lived 10. Wisdom by definition may only be gained through experience. Which is why 19 year old people do not in fact rule the world. It isn't a secret why the leaders of nations, companies or households are not the children but the adults.

As for anything someone may have posted here before my arrival...the assumption that a massive post count HERE is germane in any way for the person "Knowing what they are talking about" is ridiculous. THG happens to be be a great site...but is only one of many millions, and to somehow infer that only experience here is valid....well. *shrug* If you wish to believe that...good luck next time you change jobs...since one has no experience at ones new company...one should be accorded less recognition than the lowliest janitor who has scrubed the place down for decades. Surely you can see how ridiculous that premise is.

Seriously, I am here to contribute to the hardware and technology information base. I have much experience and accumulated widsdom (if not typing skills, dyslexia rules...just in case I have missed editing my transposed characters) and have in my short time here helped out more than one person with questions. I have also had questions of my own answered. So all in all I'd say yep you are right, hard to prove anything on a forum...results are what count.

Edit. Humility is over rated and usually carped about by those lower on the food chain....just a bit of wisdom I have picked up in 30 years in the IT field

It seems we have a conflict in definitions. Wisdom for me, is not the gain of the experience from just existing. Wisdom is the ability to use knowledge and meaningful experience in a constructive way. Wisdom is knowledge, understanding, insight.. and application of all these traits.

As a philosopher and a mathematics student, I find myself going to the extremes when I need an answer to a question that demands a yes or no answer. You say as one ages, he becomes wise though general experience. So lets say a man of 40 has lived isolated in a cage for 40 years. What wisdom has he gained? What knowledge? His experiences are quite limited, even for a 5 year old... so who is the wiser?

You can gain meaningless experience and knowledge, can you gain meaningless wisdom? What is it worth? True wisdom is granted by people you affect in life.. it can not be measured by oneself, that is arrogance.

You mentioned that young adults / teenagers are not the leaders of their household because of the lack of wisdom (in your case you mean experience). Experience can be gained many ways, and at different paces. Kids whose parents are ill and become the head of the household learn very quickly how to take care of it out of necessity of the moment. They have become more "wise" then others their age.

I also did not say post count is proportional to knowledge... i said they have no coloration, just as what you say has none.

And humility is not over rated.

I have not given out my age either. For all you know, I could be older then you... but my opinion is still valid, and I would consider giving yours more thought.
