So, my PC with an RTX 3080 and a XPG 850 W Gold+ modular PS will sometimes turn off and restart at random (no load on CPU and GPU) but most often turns off when playing games. I stress tested the CPU and RAM in OCCT a few times and they pass. I also ran MEMTEST64 and the RAM passed. When I stress test the power in OCCT it will run for about 20 minutes before restarting or locking up. When I stress test the GPU alone, it used to run for about 15 minutes before locking up or restarting, but now it does it nearly instantaneously.
So, the obvious conclusion might be to think it's the GPU. But, I logged the data from HWInfo and all the GPU temps are perfectly fine. The hot spot usually is around 83 C and every other sensor temp is 5 to 10 C below that at the time of crash. The memory voltage on the GPU also seems really stable when it crashes. Also, when it shuts down, it's not at maximum power in the power test. It was at higher powers previously. I can upload my logs if anyone wants to look.
I'm actually kind of leaning towards a PS problem. Could it be a PS problem even though the GPU tests always fail? I don't see anything that would cause the GPU to crash the PC in the logs at all. I'm kind of thinking the PS might be sending a voltage spike or something due to the GPU running. And, it occasionally restarts when it is idling as well when nothing is at load.
Thoughts?
