Computer blank screen and random shut downs

Okay so today my computer randomly displayed a blank white screen when i tried to open up a program, i waited awhile for it to fix itself but it didn't so as much as i hate to do it, i was forced to restart it with the power button on the pc tower. The computer worked fine as i played on it for a couple of hours but then an hour after a finished and put the computer in sleep mode it randomly woke itself up, so i put it back to sleep again but instead off sleeping, it turned off, and then back on for a few seconds and then back off. Maybe its also worth mentioning that about a year ago (prior to restoring it to factory settings), my computer would randomly blank screen a new color every week whether it be bright yellow or even green. Id appreciate it if someone could explain to me what is exactly is going on, thanks

its odd, woke itself up? might be a virus or malware?

Thanks for the response Nathaniel_5, after reading your comment I ran a malware scan as well as an anti-virus boot time scan but neither one of these scans detected a single thing. I know this does not necessarily rule out the possibility of a virus but I think it at least makes it unlikely? Does my problem sound like anything else you have heard of, maybe a problem with the motherboard, or the operating system?

Did you build the computer yourself ? Yes ? give me a list of the hardware you're using.
