I built this computer about three years ago and it has run with pretty much no problems until recently when I left it asleep for a few days and afterwards I couldn't get it to turn back on. After trying all sorts of things, I took the computer apart and discovered there was some white build-ups (almost like calcium on a shower head) around the base of some CPU pins and some stuff on the motherboard socket that seemed like thermal paste. I did my best to clean them both off with 91% isopropyl alcohol, put the computer back together, jumped the CMOS battery, and finally got a BIOS screen. I tried to look at some settings and then boot, but it just shut down. I tried again, booted normally, and everything worked fine.
After I shut it down, however, when I turned it on I would only get all the fans spinning and LEDs lighting up, but no BIOS. I tried replacing the CMOS battery and moving the RAM sticks around to no avail. The RAM and GPU are new since I originally thought they were the problem. I also bought a motherboard speaker from Fry's but either the computer doesn't post or it's incredibly quiet. When I try to boot with only the CPU+heatsink, motherboard, and PSU (but still in the case) I seem to get one beep, not sure if it's long or short, but once I put in the RAM I get nothing. Any idea what's going on?
