Computer case getting very hot during gaming after using new GPU, smells coming from computer.

I am nearly 100% sure it's just my relatively crappy PSU not being able to handle the new GPU, but the temps of the CPU and GPU are fine (45-55 idle CPU, around 65 during games. GPU is around 60 idle, goes up to 75 during games, hasnt gotten higher so far).

But, the computer case itself gets very, very hot to the touch. And there is also a faint smell coming from the computer. But this only happens during games. Idle/browsing internet everything is fine, so thats why I'm assuming its the GPU needing a better power supply.

Guess I'm just looking for reassurance.

If I'm right and I need a new PSU, is this one any good?

Is 1k watts overkill for my system though? Or is it a safe bet for future building? Or would buying 750 or even 850 be smarter (and cheaper)?

Not really thrilled that I have to put in a couple more hundred bucks into this computer, but if it is the PSU I should probably get a replacement ASAP (though I am nervous about putting it together, originally mine was pre built for me).

My specs:

Processor Cooling Liquid CPU Cooling System [SOCKET-1155] - Standard 120mm Fan
8 GB [4 GB X2] DDR3-1600 Memory Module - Corsair
AMD Radeon HD 7850 - 2GB
ASUS P8Z77-V LK -- 2x PCI-E 3.0 x16, 4x USB 3.0
700 Watt Solytech
Windows 10 64 Bit Home Premium
wd black2 dual drive (120 SSD, 1TB HDD) and a 2 TB Seagate HDD.
Intel® Core™ i5-3570K Processor (4x 3.40GHz/6MB L3 Cache)

Your idle temperatures are way too high. Even my R9280x idles at 37c in my case and my I7 2600 OC @ 4.2 is at about 29 / 30c using a Corsair H90 closed loop cooler. Your case should not be hot to touch you have a major airflow problem.

Is your CPU watercooled with a closed loop cooler? Are you blowing the hot air into your case? What case do you have and where / how many fans do you have?.

Also yes your PSU looks pants... but you need to solve your airflow problem first.

Have no idea about the closed looper.

My case has two fans, it is the ibuypower chimera case.

Edit: Right now, after not using my computer at all my CPU temps are around 40, GPU is at 59.

Update: I talked to a friend and he said it might not be the PSU at all (Though my current PSU is pretty iffY). He said my case could just use another intake fan, since my temps go down by like 10 degrees on all components when I open the case up.

That does seem to fit well with what you're showing. I was going to add that you might check that the PSU's fan is running and also dust out the PC with compressed air if it hasn't been done recently.

I actually have a third fan but it's safe to assume that it needs to be cleaned (I wasnt even aware it was there).

I'm 100% sure the heat isn't coming from the PSU though, just the GPU.
