Hey all. I have a homebuilt system that I have had for a little over a year now. I am currently having an issue when waking my computer from sleep. When I wake the computer, I can see the machine turn on and start up (LED fans light up) but the monitor stays black. It stays like that and my only option is to do a hard reset.

After resetting the computer, it says its resuming windows and lets me login, but it runs very slow for a while. On my next restart, the computer "checks the disk for consistency", and then after that everything is normal again.

This doesn't happen every time I put it to sleep, but it has been happening a lot lately. I had this issue last year, but it just stopped, and i can't remember if I had done anything to fix it. I did not have this problem again until sometime last week. The only thing I did last week was I installed the new drivers for my video card and uninstalled/reinstalled MSI afterburner.

Does anyone have an idea as to whats causing the problem and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Solution

I would say we have a suspect chain...

Can u restore to previews time, when everything worked?

Sometimes even the newest drivers are source of problems.

I am currently on the default "Balanced" setting, and for where it says "Turn off Hard Disk after" I only have the option to extend the time. I saw a post on the internet where someone had it set to "Never" but I haven't figured out how to do it yet.

Set it to High performance, balanced is good for laptops. And than change it to

Your link didn't work for me. Will I lose any power saving features from my CPU/GPU by doing High Perf, or is that controlled by the mobo and video driver? I have OC'ed my i5 760 and GTX 470's so I like to keep them running cooler when i can. Otherwise my computer turns into a space heater lol

I i tried it, but no dice. I put it to sleep once, and it woke up fine. 5 minutes later I put it asleep again, but this time it didn't wake up. It's gotta be something with the HDD cuz the HDD LED is not staying on when it tries to wake up

I almost can't imagine that the monitor staying black after sleep would have anything to do with the HDD. The disk scan on reboot is not that unusual after a hard reset. That said, nothing is impossible I 'spose. Surely this is more likely related to the GPU not waking? Surely.
If it isn't the HDD, from the same menu as the screen shot provided by nikorr above, try setting: PCI Express --> Link State Power Management --> Off
If that still doesn't work, just don't put the display to sleep at all - also from that menu: Display --> Turn off display after --> Never.

If the HDD goes to sleep it wont wake up, till after restart.

It is just one of many issues it can be.

Ya. It says the source is DriverFrameworks-UserMode. Is that what you wanted?

I´m starting to see a lots of posts describing the same problem or somthing similar with windows 7. I had a similar issue a month ago. I wonder, why? It seems that no one knows exactly what it is :( I tried a lots of things and finally after checking my hdd 20 times for errors and replacing the power cable, the problem stopped. I repeat, this was very strange. The issue only happend when the pc was at sleep mode or in the web, not when I was playing or in heavy load.
