Computer doesn't turn on if CPU is in

So I just bought a brand new CPU for my new computer I'm having trouble with because the pins of the old one were bent. I don't even know if that was the problem but it's definitely A problem. Anyway. I just slotted the CPU in (ryzen 1700) and noticed that it isn't locking into the mobo. Yes, the pins and arrow are aligned and it fits well enough, but the metal arm does nothing. Not paying too much attention to this, I threw the fan on top of it (not screwed in, I just wanted to see if it worked) and I'm not getting any signs of life when I turn the thing on. Without the CPU, I obviously don't POST but everything lights up and spins. Any ideas?

id look in each and every pin hole to make sure they are clear. if the arm isnt locking, it's a problem.

unless you can remove a foreign object and get the cpu to seat properly, id say you gonna need a new mobo

I think the CPU you have bought is not compatible with your motherboard dose the CPU Fit in nicely in the MB CPU Slot because if it dose then computer should work but if it dose not then you need a new MB to make it compatible.

Plus the more you try to slot the CPU about it could damaged the MB by removing the MB Pins from its slot!. Happened to me moved the CPU about and it removed the pins from the MB.

Thats a good point, make sure the mobo supports am4

Have you checked the MB pins?

The MB has pin holes in this case, the CPU is the one with pins, and those pins are fine.

First of all, can you tell us what your motherboard is?

Secondly when you say the arm does nothing, does that mean it moves the full 90 degrees with no resistance but the socket does not move, or that you cant move it?

The mobo is a B350 tomahawk, the arm has a full range of motion but doesn't seem to do anything.

Then yeah it sounds like you got shipped a board with a defective socket.
Take out the CPU and then try to close the arm, if you dont see the socket move it is for sure broken
