I needed to know if it's possible to hook up or wire and old computer fan with red black and white wire to a new fan with a black red and yellow wire. I have an old motherboard that uses the old black red and white three pin connector and I want to use a smaller Fan that's newer but has black yellow and red wiring

Solution
Have you tried just pulling the pins out? Just a small tab that holds them in. Usually all the same.

They aren't wired any differently so it will work fine. Just the wire color and connector is different (The older one was to prevent the fan connector from coming loose unintentionally.
Dang I need that old style connector but the fan that's on the connector is too big and I only have the newer style fans. It's actually for the CPU. I can run it with out that fan connected but i don't really like too

I actually just found an old fan with an old 3pin like the white black and red one with red yellow and black wires. will that connector work with the red yellow black small fan if cut and wired

So I tried it and it runs at max rpms so that's not gonna work. Way to loud and it's telling me no cpu fan found. I can bypass with f1 but that's an annoying screen I don't wanna see every time I boot.
