Computer Freezez when playing video games

Hi guys this is my first time posting in a message board for computer related issues so apologies in advance for giving incomplete information or posting my question in the wrong thread

Recently (about 10 days ago) while I was playing I think the long dark my computer froze and displayed only 1 solid color and i heard the sound that usually accompanies when the computer tells you something went wrong with the program you are using. I ultimately had to restart my computer manually since my computer was not responding, also the audio was looping however when I pressed alt f4 or pressed the power button(not holding the power button only pressing it) the sound stopped showing that the pc is still sort of responding. This has happened with all my games after a while of play. From performance heavy games like sniper elite 4 and no man's sky to games that a toaster could run like kingdoms and castles, mount and blade with fire and sword. However this problem only happens when I play games not when their paused.

I checked the action center to find out what happened and it says that with No Man's Sky it stopped working and with sniper elite 4 it says that I had a video hardware error.

start by uninstalling the nvidia drivers
download the latest version for your GPU directly from nvidia and install them

I deleted geforce experience then reinstalled it and then reinstalled my drivers (I did custom installation and checked all the boxes). I ran sniper elite 4 and it ran fine for a while (longer than the last time it crashed) before freezing my computer again and giving me another screen filled with one color

check what your CPU & GPU temps are like when idle and also when gaming

I went to the performance monitor and I think it is an issue with the drivers not being up to date. this is what I got:

Resolution: 1. Try installing the drivers using Windows Update.

perhaps there is another driver that needs to be updated. If so how do I update all my drivers. Perhaps the solution is to delete all the nvidia drivers entirely and reinstall it?

depends... does is your GPU listed in the device manager?

yes it is I think. it lists my gtx 960 there if that is what your asking
