So let me start with the backstory: Starting around last weekend my computer monitor randomly went black, mad the USB disconnect sound, and came back on. But after it came back on, the resolution was set to the lowest instead of my normal 1920x1080. So I turned my computer off and back on and it was fixed. About 2 hours later it did the same, I repeated. Another 2 hours later it did it again. The next time it did it, instead of going to a black screen, it went to a grey one that said "D-SUB Out of Range 75hz/60hz." So I unplug the D SUB cable from my monitor and plug it back in and it fixed the problem for the time. The next few days after it continued with that and I searched far and wide over the internet for solutions. I finally decided to choose the "Refresh my PC" option for windows 8. So I did that and re-setup my computer and programs and I thought I had seen the last of it. Now it constantly makes the USB disconnect sound and my monitor flashes black for a millisecond. Occasionally it will make the connect sound. I'm really at a loss. If anyone could help me that would be wonderful.

Solution
Don't do any of this. From my research, people have had this issue years ago. Mine kept hanging and freezing the mouse. Kept getting new anit-virus software. One found a major virus but it didn't solve the issue totally. Did all the computer stuff to correct any issues.
My computer doesn't freeze or crash any longer but still get this sound. Now, I will say this must be a virus because the issue arises when searching targeted phrases or words or websites.

Therefore, unless and until you find an anti-virus software that will grab this garbage program causing this............everything we do is futile.
Technically, it's not a USB sound: Windows makes that sound when it discovers a new device and installs a driver.

Since it coincides with screen flashes it seems to indicate Windows is recycling the video driver.

I'd like you to try to boot an Ubuntu DVD (free to download and burn to disk) and run it as a live DVD (it gives you the option to run the Ubuntu desktop off the DVD without installing to HDD, this is called "Live CD" and you get to it by selecting "Try Ubuntu" rather than "Install Ubuntu" when the choice is presented. The reason I'd try this is to see if there are similar graphical glitches here.

If the PC is still under warranty see if you can have it serviced by the manufacturer.

Currently downloading Ubuntu, will take about another hour, will update you when finished.

UPDATE: This afternoon I connected my PC to my TV and it worked fine with no sounds or flashing. So I have reason to believe it might be down to my monitor. The question is, would buying a new monitor fix the problem?
