You're not suposed to leave the cmos battery out for more than ten seconds, the longer itis removed, the more degradation is likely to the cmos chip. The chip relies on power either from the battery or the PSU when powered. How long can you hold your breath?

Removing the battery is just to reset the bios to defaults and nothing more. Some latoptops do require the battery to be left out for up to 15 minutes but their capactors do take longer time to dissipate their stored power. PC capacitors disspate their power in less than 5 seconds.

Before removing the battery, wait for the motherboard light to diminish then remove the cmos battery for up to 10 secionds before placing it back into its holder. Turn on the Power rocker switch on PSU, then you're good to gboot up. It is a good practice to also turn off the mains power to the PSU even though the rocker switch is turned off.

your problem could be due to an over used power bar, you may have a heater on the same bar or a TV or other appliance, better to use a power bar (board) that is set aside for the PC and monitor only.

I know it only took a second to clear CMOS and clean it normal for a motherboard, in some cases for motherboard take some time to neutralize the voltage in all components, and it worked quite well for many users. and does not affect him as becasuse cmos chip data storage Bios only. and the battery will not run out even if left outside for 15minutes .. but it all depends on the OP .. how to cope with the case .. just opinion
