Computer not using ram.

I have 16gb of ram. My computer uses 4, but openly stats that it reads my ram in other places. What is happening, and how do i fix it.

go in msconfig.exe -> boot -> advanced and make sure that "memory limit" is disabled.

The problem continues, it was unchecked, i checked it restarted, and then unchecked it and restarted. Nothing changed.

Are you running 64bits Windows? Try clearing CMOS settings. If there is still no joy, download memtest86 and see if it is able to access and test all of your RAM.

I am running 64bit windows. It says in the picture of my ram usage that 12gb is dedicated to my hardware reserved.

ummm did you install 32 bit windows or 64 bit?

Right click the Start menu and then go to system. It will list it or look in your C Drive and see if there is a Program Files (x86). If there isn't then you installed 32 bit and the max it can use is 4 GB. only way is to do a COMPLETE reinstall of windows to 64 bit.

Yea i posted that right when you guys did. What brand of RAM do you have? This is also an issue of unspported RAM as well

I dont see how the rams itself is at fault at all here because the picture shows the computer sees the ram fine and is using it for something. Since nothing in a normal desktop PC will ever "reserve" 12GB of RAM, it is safe to conclude that the memory has been flagged off-limits for some reason and one of those reasons is having a 32bits OS.

If you are certain that you have 64bits Windows, then you must have a configuration flag either in the BIOS or the OS limiting Windows to 4GB. Another possibility is that Windows detected errors on the DIMMs and 'reserved' them to prevent software from accessing them.

Well, Windows knows it is there but that is about it, doesn't really mean anything other than it knows something is plugged in.

You should check each stick individually by removing it all and try booting with a single stick at a time. If they all work then try it in the dual channel config with just two sticks. Have you updated your BIOS anytime recently? There may be an update that will fix it assuming nothing is wrong with the RAM or slots.

You reset the CMOS to make sure you didn't set something you shouldn't have in it the past, test the memory with memtest86 and if all else fails, you replace your 4x4GB DIMMs with 2x8GB ones that are on the motherboard's QVL.

All sticks tested fine, cmos was reset, everything looks normal except for 12gb are under reserved,

Hmmm. GSkill is usually pretty good with any PC.

Check for BIOS updates, look for memory Hole or Memory remapping in the BIOS as well.

Here is the thing. A board may say it takes 8Gb stick but there are different densities as well. Some motherboards can't take the higher denisites and even though it will still read the full amount BUT it can't access it all.

Is this a new build or this just happen recently?

Can we get a motherboard model?
