This started a couple weeks ago. I tried to update to the latest driver version and the install failed. I uninstalled everything using the removal tool I downloaded off NVidia's website, then tried reinstalling but that failed too. So I looked in event viewer and saw that Malwarebytes was crashing. So I uninstalled MWB. I was then able to install the new driver. My web browser started crashing regularly when I was streaming a show. I searched online and found that the 566.36 version of NVidia's drivers were more stable than current. So I repeated the steps above including using the removal tool but the drivers will not install. Sometimes I even get a bad CRC error when the files are unzipping.

I've run Memtest86 and it passed. I ran sfc /scannow and it said it fixed some things. Samsung Magician says my drive is ok. I ran the Short diagnostic test and the SMART (34 minutes long) test and both passed. It's a Samsun 980 Pro 2TB. Bought all the parts to this system 2 years ago. Video card is PNY 4070 Ti 12GB XLR8. Other system specs are i9-13900K, 64GB's RAM (Gskill Trident Z5 RGB), Asus TUF Gaming Z790-Plus Wifi, DeepCool LT720 AIO, Win11 Pro 23H2. I was using Edge to browse NVidia's website and it crashes repeatedly. I ran some updates to drivers using Armoury crate and after a reboot when I try to start Armoury crate it brings up the MS Store.

I tried downloading a BIOS update and unzipped it, it's a .cap file - is that right? Because when I boot into the BIOS and try to update it it says it's not a valid file. The system has blue screened but the QR code went away too fast for me to get my phone out and scan it. I still can't get the video drivers to install.

So I'm not sure what my next step/s should be to fix this issue. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You're advised to use DDU to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually install the latest driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

FYI, you're on 23H2 for Windows 11, the latest version is 24H2, which means you have an update pending. For the sake of relevance, what BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

I used the DDU in Safe Mode then rebooted. I still can't install the NVidia drivers.
My current BIOS version is 1661, there are 3 newer versions. I tried them all and none of them were recognized as the right file. Is .cap the correct file extension?
I still don't see 24H2 as available to download/install.

What method are you using to update the BIOS, EZ Flash? Also make sure after unzipping, that you run the BIOS renamer that is downloaded alongside the .cap file, It should be recognized after that. If not, ensure you are downloading the correct version for your mainboard.

I used the renamer and EZ Flash still says it's not the correct file type. I still have the motherboard's original packaging and manual so I'm sure I got the model right. And that's what Armoury crate says my mobo is. I think I'm just going to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows to get my drivers installed. I'm still stumped on the BIOS update thing.
