I was playing a game last night and my computer shut off completely. No blue screen, no warning, just off. My power light was flashing and I tried to turn it back on, thinking it had gone into sleep mode, and it wouldn't power back on. So I reset the PSU and tried to turn it on again, only to find that the Motherboard speaker didn't beep and the LED lights on the Motherboard flashed for a split-second and the fans began to spin, only to turn right off again. I tried to power on again, and nothing. The only time I could get that to happen was directly after resetting the Motherboard.
I took out every part and put them back on 1 by 1, and came to the conclusion that everything would spin and run smoothly except when I connected the 8 pin connecter to the CPU power slot on the Motherboard. That's when the problem would start to occur again.
I came to the conclusion that it had to be a bad Motherboard, CPU, or PSU. I borrowed some parts from some friends, which all had similar computer setups to mine, and I started swapping out parts. I connected the same exact model CPU to my Motherboard: same thing. I swapped in two different PSU's, all with higher wattage and better than my own: same thing.
So I concluded that it must be the Motherboard. I swapped out my MSI 970A-G46 for a friend's ASRock 990FX Extreme3, and got everything hooked up. I also used his CPU just to make sure, because I know for sure that his works as he just recently took it off a working PC.
When I got everything connected, I started up the computer, and everything ran perfectly. I connected all of my peripherals, and started the computer up again. Everything seemed to run fine, however I still don't get a beep from the Motherboard speaker and now there is no display on my monitor. I hooked the monitor up with 3 different cables, and hooked it to my laptop to ensure that it was not the problem.
I started off with one problem, replaced the motherboard and CPU, and now I'm having a different problem. I turn on the computer, only to find that nothing beeps and there is no display. I unseated the Motherboard, thinking it may be shorting out on the case, and held it whilst starting the computer again. This time I hear a couple of beeps, but I'm unsure if it's from the Motherboard speaker or not because it's very feint. I have unseated all of my RAM modules, and I have retried all of the CPUs and PSUs I have, and I can't get a display to work. Also, I was going to connect directly to the onboard graphics to try and troubleshoot even further, however this "new" Motherboard that I put in doesn't seem to have an onboard graphics.
Any ideas?
