Brand new build, and I just got everything loaded up last night (OS along with all updates, drivers, some programs, etc). Right now, just the bare essentials are installed (SSD, Optical Drive...no graphics card or other HDDs). I finished up last night and shut the computer down (Start>Shut Down). Shut down fine.

Got up this morning and the computer was on. I thought maybe I just forgot to shut it down. Shut it down again, and came back 30 minutes later and it was on again.

I couldn't find a clear reason for this happening. Some of what I found said it was a power setting in the BIOS, causing it to boot up on a loss in power? Or that the BIOS battery may be low? Just looking for some guidance so I know what to check out when I get home.

-OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
-Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V Pro

Other than that, the system is running great!

Thank you very much. This issue has been driving me crazy since I built the system 2 weeks ago. ErP Ready was set to Disabled on mine so I enabled it and will see how it goes. Apparently I did read the description for this option but couldn't understand what it really was for until I read your post. So apparently once Windows has shutdown, the mainboard is still running and if this option is disabled, it won't power off some components on the mainboard namely the wifi. And something comes through the wifi, it boots up the PC. This options forces the components to turn off. OFF, not standby. OFF...O F F.

So thanks again but if the symptom persists, I will report back here.

have a asus z87-pro and have the same problem here going to give "ErP Ready" a shot
i really surprised that asus didn't address this issue on there new MB

Hello,

I am curious if anyone has solved this or not.

What I am seeing is sometimes (it seems to happen mostly after hard gaming) when I shut my system down, the system will restart/reboot after 2 or 3 seconds.

I thought at first I was leaving the computer running but I don't think that is the case. It just happens that sometimes it just reboots when I try to shut it down from Windows 7. This is an Asus z87-pro board here.

I'm looking on the Internet. I'm becoming concerned about how common of an issue this seems to be with this board.

I purchased and installed this board almost as soon as it was available on Newegg. When I initially installed everything, I thought there were no issues. However, not long ago I soon discovered my USB 3 wasn't working properly. I could plug a USB 3 device in into a USB 3 slot on the back. However, I always a prompt from my system tray saying the device would work better in a USB 3 port. Otherwise, the USB 3 device would work fine, just not at USB 3 speed.

Up to this point, the reboot problem never occurred.

On a hunch, I checked Asus' support site and noticed there was a new BIOS, v1205 or whatever it is. I installed it. This didn't appear to fix my USB 3 problem. However, I don't recall seeing any system reboots. My system was like this for 2-3 weeks.

I then went back to Asus' support website. I got to looking and noticed the USB 3 drivers had a new version available for download. Excited and hoping they would fix my USB 3 problem, I downloaded and installed the new USB 3 drivers.

I initially had some issues after installing them (system would BSOD when hooking up USB 3 device). I fixed that problem and I thought all was fine: my system stopped BSODing and my USB 3.0 devices ran at USB 3 speed without a message popping up in the system tray.

2-3 weeks went by. I would shut down my computer and come back later to see it was still up and running. I thought I had not shut the computer down and was mistaken. I got to watching my system though. Finally, while I waited for the system to fully shutdown, I saw the problem: my computer would actually restart when shutting down. Not every time, just sometimes.

I have looked at everything I can think of. I have tried the network suggestions along with the power management suggestions in this thread. Nothing has helped. I even reinstalled the OS from scratch. The problem has not gone away.

I'm tempted to uninstall the USB 3.0 drivers and install the older version to see if this is the problem. In the meantime, I have gone in and unchecked the "Automatically restart" option in the startup and recovery screen in system properties. My theory is my system, for some reason, upon shutting down thinks it has crashed or something is wrong and is rebooting the computer per that check box. There are no visible signs of issue though. No BSOD during the shutdown process. No strange messages popping up on the screen. The system simply shuts down and reboots.

I have only unchecked that box for a couple of days. So far, the system hasn't rebooted. I fear I maybe hiding a larger problem by unchecking this option.

I do suspect there is something up with the USB support and/or USB 3.0 drivers on this motherboard. I am using the latest version on Asus' website for this motherboard, v2.5.0.19. It appears to be a revision newer than what shipped on the support CD, the version where I couldn't get the USB 3 ports to run at full speed but at least my computer didn't reboot.

I think I'm going to uninstall my USB 3 driver and go back to the older version to see what happens. I am curious what version everyone else is using. I'm about to hit Asus' tech support up with this.

Thanks.

Hold on... That is so weird because I have the exact same motherboard (P8Z77-V) and PSU (Corsiar HX750w) ... So I don't know if it may be something with my PSU because i haven't seen any other problems on the web with this motherboard except for this. So I am starting to think its more with the PSU. If someone could help me that would be just great. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one with this problem.

hey man I've been having the exact same problems... And the weird thing is I have the same motherboard, RAM, and PSU as you so i think it has to be in those components somewhere...

I don't know what I was doing replying to this thread. I'm having the same issue but it's a different motherboard (same brand though...).

At any rate, I couldn't solve my issue. After much testing and diagnostics (which included swapping out PSU and memory), I was unable to solve my problem. I have tossed my hands up in the air and believe I have a bad motherboard.

I tried to RMA my board with Asus. They have two RMA options. You can send them your board, wait 2-4 weeks for them to repair it, then they will send it back. For multiple reasons, I couldn't do that. I went the second route: Asus was supposed to send me a board after I sent them my credit card info. Upon receipt of the replacement board, I would swap out the boards, I would send them my old, defective one. If they received my old board within two weeks of me getting the replacement board, then they would not charge my credit card.

I did the paper work and all. I waited a week and a half. However, I never heard anything back from Asus once I sent the paperwork beyond they did receive the paper work and everything checked out nor did I ever get my replacement board. I called Asus multiple times to see what was going on but tech support was a waste of time.

I ended up canceling the RMA and purchased a new MSI z87 MPower motherboard. The system is rock solid now, everything runs like a champ, and my shutdown/reboot issue has disappeared.

I'm really liking this MSI board. It's sweet. My initial thoughts, based on the bad motherboard I had combined with the crappy RMA hoops I was made to jump through, make me think Asus has lost a customer.

I've had this problem previously on an Asus P5W-DH, Asus should FIX THIS! Now I'm having the same problem on my Z87-Pro, Everytime I reset the UEFI bios it disappears.

Same problem here. I have a thermaltake PSU, but otherwise same setup. I've disabled wake on lan and similar settings in windows power management and device manager. I tried to enable ERP ready mode in the Advanced->ACP section of the BIOS, but it immediately resets to "Disabled" like one of the other posters claimed. So, since enabling or disabling the C3/C6 reporting/states makes no difference to my ErP setting, I'm at a loss on what to do next.

I too have this problem with Z77 pro mobo, hopefully your solution works for me also.To shed some light on the subject.Taken directly from Asrock website:

What is ErP/EuP 2.0?

ErP/EuP, stands for Energy Using Product, was a provision regulated by European Union to define the power consumption for the completed system. With the great quantity and the popularly using of the electrical products nowadays and the continuously increasing of the electrical products categories in the following 20 to 30 years, European Union decided to establish an effective strategy to solve the energy consumption problem. That is, according to ErP/EuP, the total AC power of the completed system shall be under 1.00W in off mode condition.

Compared with ErP/EuP, ErP/EuP 2.0 is stricter. Based on ErP/EuP 2.0 standard, the total AC power consumption of the completed system shall be under 0.5W in off mode in 2013. By adopting Nuvoton NCT3016 IC, ASRock is proud to announce that our P55 Deluxe, P55 Extreme are the worldwide first motherboards to achieve the ErP/EuP 2.0 standard. You can save most power consumption by our ASRock P55 Deluxe and P55 Extreme!

Can you specify "enable the c3,c6 and c state settings in bios". I can't fnd it, and ErP Ready is always Disabled

I know this is an old thread, but I have a Z87 Pro with a 4770K, running Windows 7 Ultimate like the Original Poster. I too had a motherboard that was automatically booting itself every 3 to 25 minutes without rhyme or reason. I've spent hours searching the internet/forums and performing the recommended tweaks suggested by Asus and various forum members. All drivers were updated to latest versions and I flashed the motherboard to the most recent bios provided from the Asus website. Needless to say, nothing worked in my case. I had nearly given up, as I had exhausted all internet resources, as well as anything I could think of.

This is when I figured out how to make my machine stop its endless boot cycle ... 1.5 months now without a phantom power-up. I switched my keyboard/mouse to the Cooler Master Storm Devastator. I removed the old ones from the USB 3.0 Ports in the back(the two that are on the same node as the RJ-45 Port) and plugged the CM gear to the same ports. At first I couldn't get the PC to recognize the keyboard/mouse. I tried many things, including re-installing drivers, rolling them back, and then updating ... it just wouldn't work. I then thought, lets try this on a different set, I used the bottom two of the 4 cluster on the top of the motherboard. I booted, the drivers immediately updated and everything worked ... well, almost. Everything seemed great so I sat back down on the couch and after a few minutes, the PC went into one of the low power states. After about 30 minutes, I thought odd, no power-up. Mine automatically booted from low power states or a cold boot. I let the time get to an hour passed, and it was still turned off. I then hit one of the keyboard keys, but the PC wouldn't wake. I pushed the power button, because that will also wake the PC, and it came back to life great. I tried shutting it down also, and it didn't auto-boot from there either.

This is just my opinion, but I think the issue is with the USB 3.0 on the board. Either drivers or the ports themselves. How many people use the two on the same node as the Ethernet port, that are having this issue? I was and it was fixed by using another set. I can't say it will work for everyone, but having to wake the PC by tapping the power button is much better then the constant booting/waking which isn't great for conventional spinning hard drives.

If anyone tries this, and it fixes their issue, I'd love to hear back. Either I'm very lucky, or stumbled across the answer.

had same problem with a laptop which kept booting by itself. same time the printer kept going in sleep mode and could not wake it up. my house is all wired and as last try I checked the lan cables.
my solution has been to rewire the lan wall plug which was not perfectly connected. it was wired in cat5e 568A and I just rewired that one in 568B. everything worked again, no autoboot.

I know i'm halfway necroing this thread, but I recently bought a Sabertooth z97 and this problem has been haunting me for about 3 weeks. My original fix was to just turn off my PSU as soon as the computer shut down, and once all the caps had drained it wouldn't try and reboot anymore.

However, this thread is pure gold. The ErP Ready mode was the culprit the whole time. However, I think my board is newer (or I just have SmartConnect turned off so a different ErP mode is available to me. In any case, with my particular board, if ErP Ready mode is Set to Enabled on S5, the board will not restart itself once everything possible has shut off, but it WILL still reboot on keyboard/mouse events if the on-motherboard dust fan is still doing its reverse thrust. Setting the board to ErP enabled on S4+S5 disables boot on keyboard/mouse events even while that fan is still running.

The ErP ready mode is located in the BIOS in Advanced Mode (F7) -> Advanced Tab -> APM Configuration -> ErP Ready
