I built this computer about nine months ago and was very pleased with its performance, but about three months ago it started to randomly restart. I ended up running a bunch of memory tests, virus scans and diagnostics, and it seemed to fix the issue. just recently however it has started doing it again. I have run more memory tests, so i'm fairly certain my ram isn't the issue. I also have been monitoring my core temps, and that seems fine as well. I'm starting to suspect that it may be my hard drive, but i'm running my OS on a separate SSD, so i'm not sure if that would cause the computer to crash or not. Is there anything more I can check short of re-installing windows or buying a new power supply?

specs:
AMD FX 6300 6 core processor
AMD radeon HD 7900 series gpu
ASUS M5 A97 R2.0 motherboard
xfx pro 550w power supply
samsung ssd 840 evo
Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 hard drive
win 7 OS

i think a 700 watt psu will be suit the hd 7990 ...furmark puts your gpu in full load and i have just seen that hd 7990 at full load consumes upto 570 watts of power without the system..so its better to change your psu .......
if its not a software issue and your temps are fine then either your psu is faulty or your motherboard is dying...there could be another reason that the psu is unable to provide enough power at loads to your gpu ...have u done a stress test with your gpu?

well.... i downloaded the stress test, and as soon as i start the test my computer immediately restarts. i'm checking my connections now, but it's bnot looking good for my gpu. is their anything else i can try at this point, or should i start looking at replacing it?

so i think the restarts are your gpus fault or maybe psu isnot striong enough for your gpu ...An old trick is to underclock the card, try taking 50MHz off the core and 100MHz off the memory frequencies to start with and see what happens.and this time test it with playing demanding games ...

alright, i checked all the connections to the gpu and tried the benchmark test again with no change. then i under clocked the gpu by the amounts you suggested and ran a few games, i didn't have any trouble with the games, but its hard to tell if the issue is fixed or not, plus i still cant run furmark
