Hello all.
My sister's computer has worked flawlessly, until recently it has begun to power off and reboot during the boot process. I've tested boots without GPU, tested the memory and even swapped out the power supply, assuming that was the problem.

The computer powers on then powers off after 3-10 seconds. It then restarts itself and powers off after another 3-10 seconds (It repeats this infinitely unless I unplug it). I assume it has to be an issue with the processor or motherboard, being that I've ruled out the other hardware. Is there any way to figure out exactly what it is?

We also reset the bios and rebuilt the computer with fresh artic silver5 and the results are the same.

GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570
Seasonic SS-560KM Active PFC F3, 560W ATX12V
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB

Thanks for your help and input.

Thanks for input. I tried but with similar results.

One thing to note though. I flicked the switch on the power supply to stop the process and when i turned it back on the computer tried to self restart again. This only happened once, though.

Again, the computer restarts after a few seconds. The second boot gets to the BIOS screen for a moment then it restarts. That's the pattern. I'm unable to enter the bios.

If you have windows, it seens the system didn`t finish a update correctly. Hit F8 during the first beginning of boot process to bring you the safe mode menu. Better yet, if your syster`s computer had system restore on, try to access it before the system restarts again.

Do a google search to see how to access these 2 options in the windows version you are running. If you are able to boot after chosing one of the safe mode screen options, try to remove all recently patches / updates you did, or perform a windows update againg to ensure the patches / updates will be installed correctly. If you get an error during the update process, don`t waste more time and jump to system restore process and gets the last good one.

Hey guys. The computer is fixed. It turns out that there is a known issue with the ASUS x68 mobo and the bios it shipped with. The bios locks up and restarts the computer before I was able to even enter the bios.

The fix for some people was to flash the bios, but they were able to get the bios screen before the computer would restart. Unfortunately, we were unable to. My sister chose to purchase a ASrock z77 xtreme4 and the computer now runs flawlessly.
