Ok, I couldn't take a look at that vid earlier, 'coz we're not allowed to watch vids at work. In fact You Tube/Facebook etc. are blocked.

So I took a look at that vid and it only shows how to restore the "Windows 7 installation" with all the bloatware preloaded (from a hidden partition, I think). It will not do anything to the BIOS.

To change BLOS settings (load BIOS defaults) you'll have to get into the BIOS, or you can try flashing the BIOS to the latest version. If you don't know how to do that, Google. Definitely worth a try before taking it to a service center.

Dunno 'bout Toshiba, but most manufacturers these days allow you to do that from within Windows without having to get down and dirty.

I believe that I've found the answer. Notsosure's link to the Toshiba thread really helped in figuring out the logic behind this mess.

What's happening is that certain capacitors on the motherboard that regulate the current of the CPU have started to fail. So whenever the CPU changes its clock speed or multiplier, the capacitors do not deliver the required voltage to it and the CPU malfunctions. This causes the system to reboot. Some users have fixed the issue by replacing the faulty capacitors (they are located directly behind the CPU socket on the motherboard).

Intel refers to this throttling technology as Speedstep. Windows Safe Mode seems to not use this CPU function which is why the system doesn't reboot in that mode. Disabling all the processors in Device Manager prevents normal Windows mode from using it as well. As long as the CPU doesn't use Speedstep, no spontaneous reboots will occur.

Hey guys i was having the same problem but run a full scan with Microsoft security essentials when i did that and checked my Quarantined items i found 6 viruses remove these and do a reboot. that is why it only works in safe mode. 😉
