I got a Lenovo Ideapad p500 a couple of months ago. Everything was running smoothly until now.

Now any network I connect to says I am connected, but when I try to launch games or Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer, it won't connect.

Solution
I turned off laptop, modem and router, no specific order. Waited 10+ seconds and powered on in this order-- modem, router and laptop. IMPORTANT: after turning on an item, wait before turning on next one until you see correct indicator lights on the one that is powering up.
Also--while on my password protected home wireless router connection, speed of page-loading increased greatly when I turned off private windows firewall.
I solved my exact problem by going into my programs and uninstalling anything that wasn't vital or a big name recognizable program. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have confidence you won't uninstalling some necessary.

Solution

I have a desktop PC that just stopped like this yesterday. Browsers, malware/virus detection programs, nothing can connect. No solutions here have yet worked, but thank you to those who posted theirs!

Network connection is "excellent", the Troubleshooting wizard finds no problems. Restarting router no good. Thanks to posts above I've accessed my AT&T router's interface (search ATT's internet support site) from my unaffected laptop. I see the PC in the IP Allocation list and it's on... tried a system restore which failed due to some monitor exe "missing from its original location"... all that would have done is uninstall the one app added in the past month - online blackboard collaboration - so I did that - no good... now running mcaphee scan of whole system...

...Whoa. Even with an ethernet cable there's still no connection, "IPv6 No Internet Access"...scan proceeds...

hi there... i know it's a month late but it's worth the shot if your problem is not yet fixed...
i'm not sure if this could apply to you but i hope i could help....
same problem with my brother's laptop, i tried the one with winsockfix..

1. First of all download the WinsockFix Utility from the following link:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

2. Run it and click fix.

3. restart the computer

4. go to Control Panel -> network connections -> right click the lan connection and click properties

5. In the general tab double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list.

6. re-enter the details as necessary.

if it's not yet solved try doing this one fr : www.udel.edu/it/help/anti-malware/winsockfix.html

you can also try doing this:

1. right click the connection either it is lan or wireless...
2. choose properties
3. then click one the internet protocol (TCP/IP)
4. click properties
5. check obtained both

but the one that really solved the problem is when i uninstall hotfix from the programs... you can see it by going to control panel then programs on the left side of the panel you can see view installed updates click that one then look for the security update for microsoft hotfix... right click then uninstall... i was planning to reformat the laptop again but it will costs too much time.. hope you can fix the problem..

Well since i had this problem for weeks and couldnt find proper solution untill now i will list few causes and fixes.

1. Internet Options - the most common issue that can cause this problem. You can fix it by going to Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings and uncheck the Proxy server
2. A Virus - Ive had dealings in the past with virus that blocked my access to almost any site. It can be fixed by scanning under safe mode and removing the virus
3. MWB AM - YES Malwarebytes Antimalware is a very big pain in the a** if not configured properly. If you have this problem and no other solution helps know that at some point MWB have blocked every single IP on the internet you can think of. Easiest solution is uninstall MWB, or you can remove the IP`s from blocked list and stop the feature that is causing it
best part was when i found that it blocked microsoft updates and its own update site

I had the same problem. I uninstalled Norton 360. I also checked windows firewall and my browser was allowed for private networks, but not for public. Checked public and I'm back online!

i researched a long time and none of the answers worked for me finely just before i did a system image restore i started uninstalling all the recent installed toolbar and programs
until i found the one causing the trouble hope this helps someone

i had the same problem with windows 7. it showed that i am connected to a network but was not able to access net. i tried both ie, chrome . the problem was with proxy settings. in google chrome . i went to setting . show advanced settings. show proxy setting. lan settings . deselect use a proxy server for your lan . . hope it helps

I have the same problem... I did a ping to the Google ip and I have positive results... So the pc are connected to the internet but all the programs says the oppose....

I have teamspeak 3 to... And some games...

I sensed this problem after a power failure. and beyond the lack of Internet also have the adobe premiere and the after effects that do not open ... the rest is okay

If anyone can help.... Please...

Okay so I tried everything on the forum, but it turned out to be something simple.
Go to control panel. Network and internet. Network and sharing center. On the left, look for change adapter settings. Right click your connection and click properties. Click configure. Under tab 'power management' make sure 'allow the computer to turn this device off to save power' is unchecked. Press ok. That got my computer on the webs again. Good luck all

  • I had the same problem. I fixed it by uninstalling an anti malware/spyware program that was probably downloaded off of utorrent. So far it works, but it sometimes works for a bit then stops working. I hope this time it's permanent.
