I just got a new GPU (evga 2080 super) and I've been having the issue of it shutting down my computer 5 or 10 minutes into a game. I updated all drivers, installed the 2080s, and have tried to cut the power down to 80% on my gpu. When at 100%, and using the precision x1 test it shuts down almost immediately, when on 80% it took about 2-3 minutes before it shut down. My specs are: I7 6700k Z170 asus motherboard 700w corsair psu 16gb Evga 2080 super I've ordered a new power supply of 850w, thinking it could be that, but I'm not sure. Has anyone encountered these problems? (( it will stay on all day, if I dont have a game running))

Yes it could be the power supply, although a 700w one should be fine as long as it's a reliable good quality one.

Hopefully you did not just order some cheap 850w one since those are probably worse than the one you have.

You can install undervolting utility for now and try lowering GPU voltage. also check temperatures, because if GPU goes really hot very fast it throtteling or shuts down immediately if temperature gain is too fast

Remote help this translates to a simple advice, and this is: visit a local computers store, so one qualifying technician to test this system with another power supply.

It's definitely your power supply causing issues. Make sure you get a power supply with adequate 12v amps. The wattage in most cases is irrelevant. If your 12v rail has low amperage "i would recommend nothing lower than 50amp" you will encounter this issue as these newer cards use much more power than previous models.
