[SOLVED] Computer slow to make new folders

Hey running windows 10 home, I just moved and got my pc all hoked back up. When I went to create a new folder on my wd my book (less then 1 month old) i found that when i made a folder and typed in the name id have to wait about 30-45 seconds after i hit enter before I could do anything. I then tried to make a folder on the deskptop to see if it was the external drive or the pc drive. It does it for both. Ive googled and seen a lot of posts saying to make sure you run the hdd optimize which i have done and no difference. Any other ideas why this miught be happening? It never used ot do this before i moved.

hey thanks for getting back to me, i never thought to test that out. I just tried and yes it is still slow to create the folder with the external drive disconnectd

So what is PC? Is it a laptop or desktop?
is it a custom built PC or brand name?
if custom, what drives in PC? If brand name, what make/model?

You might want to run HDTune on drives in PC, and look on the health tab. You only want to see OK in status on all lines.

I built this PC years ago, I upgraded the HDD to a SSD about 2ish months ago. I was worried it might have been from the move but dont know what it could have been, I dont think its cables because I just had it all apart to clean it and put everything back together and rechecked after this issue. Its a desktop, sabertooth z79 mother board, intel i5 cpu, 16gb ram, samsung SSD, and western digital HDD. Ill check HDTune right now and see what it says.

checked HD tune and all 3 of my drives under health all say ok for everything....

did you try this?

Yes... if you:

1. Open Windows Explorer/File Explorer.
2. Click the 'view' tab.
3. Click 'Options' button at the far right hand side of the view ribbon.
4. On the 'General' Tab, un-tick the two privacy options, and click 'Clear'.
5. Apply/OK to exit.

The problem should have gone away by now, try creating a new folder and renaming it.

choose powershell (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:
Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter
SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

glad it helped, I was starting to run out of ideas

it is a very strange fix? very random.

You can do bottom part whenever you like, it is a check of windows itself. Not an exclusive fix for this problem.
