Computer turned off, only runs about up to a minute before turning off

Yesterday my computer turned off while in the middle of playing games, and when i tried turning it back on, it would refuse until the fourth or fifth attempt to turn on, and even then it would only stay a minute up before it'd just shutdown.
I looked around here and other sites and from what i could tell, it looked to be the PSU, my PSU was a roswell gold 750W, I went and bought a cheap EVGA 650W (not certified from what i can tell?) and put it in there just to see if that was the problem.
My Computer ended up working after that for about an entire day, i was able to play games and watch videos fine until the next morning. I'm back to step one, my computer turns on (now on the first try) and works for about a minute before shutting down.
Everything is working inside from what i can tell, lights and fans all on and moving.

I do have a gold certified 1000W PSU on the way, i'm thinking maybe the PSU i just bought is weak because it had fixed the issue for a day.

So far what i've tried:
- replaced my PSU with a cheap one (fixed it for a day)
- took out ONE of my three 4gb ram sticks (let me run my computer for an extra minute before shutting down and letting me get past a minute again)

Please help, sorry this is so long, just trying to be thorough

Hmm... It looks like you have a thermal problem buddy. The tempratures on that cpu is high.
I belive this is for your CPU: MAX Core temps is 61.1°C MAX socket temp is 70°C

And I belive once you pass 70 on the core temps your cpu will start to throttle.

It might not be your PSU doing this but your CPU thermal throttle to the point it shuts the computer off to prevent damage.

In your bios, do you have an option to turn off cores? so you dont run 8 cores. Turn of lets say 4 or 6 cores so you run a quad or dual core setup and try and run the stress test then.
Cause if you turn off over half the cores and run the stress test while monitor your temps. And they will then ofc dont go as high as now and you dont crash. Well...

Small update:
my PC wont turn off if i do things like watch youtube

if i try to play games (Heroes of the Storm if that matters) it will shut down,

its looking like its just the PSU that bought is weak? any thoughts?

Either you got a temprature problem but that you can just monitor with a program or in bios.

Here is word of wisdom for you: Never cheap out on the PSU.

Thats like you going out and buying a super car only to fill up the tank with sugar water.... makes no sence.

From what I know AeroCool PSU`s are not good. Before you go and buy a PSU make sure you read about it...
Here is a guy who is known to do good reviews:
If you dont know 90% of what he is saying just go to last page and read the conclusion and score :)

And getting a 1000 watts PSU for your system is total overkill but atleast you can upgrade to whatever you want down the road.

Ofc, but from what you are saying here it points towards the PSU.

It could be HDD or SSD problems but I dont think it is since it only happens when you put load on the system ( more watts needed )


There could be temprature problems also but... thats like 5 min to check that

And let us know know what tempratures you have on avg. and max. And whats you avg. and max Vcore

Info about your hardware would also be nice, like what cpu, GPU, memory, etc etc.

i ran the stress test a couple times for the CPU only before my computer just shut down

i didnt sorry, but i started my comp up again and ran it for five minutes, this time it did not shut off

2 minute runtime:
CPU: 73 C
Mainboard: 28 C

5 minute runtime:
CPU: 79 C
Mainboard: 29 C

theres also a seperate temp for AMD FX-835: 84C

So i've decided to get a new cooler since my current cooler is 4 years old. My case has 3 built in fans aswell but i'm gonna add two fans to it.

i want to give this a try before i disable any of the cores on my CPU. What do you think??

Stop or pause the order.

Here are some important info about your case:
Technical specifications
Maximum CPU Cooler Height: 156 mm

Now look at technical specifications on the V8 GTS you want:
Dimensions (LxWxH) 154 x 149.8 x 166.5mm ( I highlighted the important number for you.

To keep it short, your case will not be able to fit that cooler since its to high. You have to find a cooler that is under 155mm high.
Also keep in mind the width of the cooler if it would interfere with your ram or other parts in your build :)

The cpu cooler you have now is 158.5 mm high, so in a way it should not fit. So i do wonder. How close it to the side panel of your case atm?

Your temps are way !!! to high, leave the side panel open if you can.
The ... Hyper 212.. was plenty, with a good 120mm fan on it.

But this will not work well, if your case is small and badly ventilated.

Basic principle, you need as much air coming in, as going out !

A mesh front will keep things cooler, but you will need to dust frequently,
the inside of your case,....

Also included fans that come with cases, are most often not worth crap.

What case do you have , post a link, or photo...

P.S leave side panel open, to test....

The 212evo is better than the low profile Gemini + its a pain in the neck to mount the Gemini.

Just came to think of one thing. What rpm are the fan on the 212evo running at?


Since the 980 is an open air, make sure your case + fans can handle the heat being dumped into the case. You need good airflow
