So this just started happening recently, and I suspect it to be my hard drive as it is many years old, however I would like a second opinion. As I said this just started happening recently. A week or so ago I decided to overclock my CPU (i5 2500k) to 4.3 GHz, instead of the stock 3.3GHz. I followed all of the necessary steps with enabling and disabling options, as well as setting the voltage offset for the overclock. A few days after I overclocked I got a blue screen while gaming and figured it was because the voltage offset was too low, as temperatures were fine at the time. This blue screen happened a few times until I got the voltage right.
For a few days I had no issues, until my computer started randomly freezing. Most often it freezes in games. At this point I assumed it was because of the overclock, so I set everything back to default values, to no avail. The freezing issues continued. After freezing a few times over the course of a day or two, I encountered a new error. When I try to boot my computer, it tells me that I need to select a proper boot device. So, I went into bios and checked, and my hard drive is selected. So I hit save and exit, and bios doesn't exit on its own ( I think an unrelated problem) So I restart my computer and the same thing.
At this point I checked inside my computer to make sure everything was connected, and everything was. So next time I went to boot the computer, I hit f11 to select a boot device right there, and selected my hard drive. When I do this it will boot, even though it's the same drive that is selected in bios. This happens every time, and the freezing is still continuing, but happens mostly when doing something hard drive intensive (video games, saving in FL studio, etc.)
The boot problem is what led me to believe it is a hard drive issue, as they began to happen at the same time. Otherwise I would have assumed it was a memory error or something similar. And input would be helpful! I have searched around on the forums and with general googling, but it is a fairly specific set of symptoms and felt that it could be better diagnosed with proper information provided.
Thank you in advance.
(Also sorry for the massive chunk of text I tried to format it as best as possible.)
