Okay, so i have this weird pc at my parent's house, it appears as a standard G41D3C pc, but the sound drivers don't work, the usb drivers don't work, i tried reinstalling windows, with all the drivers, yet sound still doesn't work, even when using the hdmi sound output, it still doesn't output sound. So i assume it's hardware related too. I bought a pci to usb adapter and it got the usb to work again, which is great, but i need the sound too, so is a cheap sound card a viable option, or its drivers do rely on the internal sound card drivers? Please don't suggest something like new pc or something, i just need my mom to see her dramas on this pc.

Have you looked in "Control Panel > Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers" to see if your motherboards "VIA VT1708B 6-Channel HD Audio" chip is listed?

Have you looked in "Device Manager > Sound > Playback" to see if your speakers are the default playback device?
