Hey please help my old pc has 512mb cl5 ram in it. So I ran a test it says my motherboard supports up to 2gb of ram. I bought a 1gb cl6 ram stick so here is the thing it will boot and recognize the ram stick as long as the original stick is still in but will not boot with just the cl6 1gb stick in it. I say this because I Also have an additional 2gb cl6 stick I would like to replace the 512mb cl5 stick with but it also refuses to boot with the 2 1gb sticks it I really don't understand and there are no bios updates for my pc

Solution
Maybe it won't support the speed of the RAM, are they the same. Is it DDR 2?
You could also check a manual for the motherboard to find out which slots it wants you to put the RAM in first.

Solution
all the sticks are ddr2 just the 2 1gb stick are cl6 instead of cl5 like the 512mb stick it will boot and recognize the 1gb cl stick as long as the cl5 is still in it. so i'm thinking it might have to do with the mhz speed of the sticks as you are saying the computer is so old though there are no bios updates on the manufacture website and it will not allow me to mess with the memory specs in the bios i was reading something about when you put to different speeds in it defaults to the slower one and integrates the 2 stick but i'm still stump about getting to just boot with a single cl6 stick in with no other sticks thanks so much for you help

It has 2 memory slots and will run a 1gb cl6 stick in it as long as the 512mb cl5 stick is in the other slot it just will not run the 1gb cl6 stick on it own

This Bios and Windows 10 will recognize either stick of 1gb cl 6 as long as the 512mb cl 5 is in it. I just will not boot up without that original factory 512 mb cl 5 in the pc. I have tried 1 stick of 1 gb cl 6 both sticks of 1gb cl6 it will not boot

and you can't change any (DRAM) voltages? or speeds?

I found something similar to this

Hey thanks for the reply no I dont believe I can change the ram settings in the bios it is a E Machine Model W6409. I dont see any updates on the manufacturer website and it originally had window xp on the computer
