Computer won't boot

So I just got my new CPU today, it's an i5-3470. So without doing much research and only watching one video on how to take out the old CPU and install the new one, I got to work with it. I have put in new HD's, graphic cards, and power supplies with no issue. So how hard could a CPU and fan be? Pretty damn hard... I got the CPU installed with no issue, but the part I thought would be easy is turning out to be really hard, the fan. The fan the CPU came with is not screws like my old one. It is those little pins that you punch down and twist. Problem is, I don't know if my motherboard is compatible with those pins. They won't push down and the screw holes are preventing the little white part from going all the way down. So I came up with a solution, just use my old fan temporarily until I can figure it out.
So I installed my old fan, which has screws, and screwed it down. Ready to go I thought, I plugged everything bag in and hit the power button. Nothing happened. I mean the lights on the computer turned on, but neither of my monitors showed up. Just a normal black screen.

Now I have heard that sometimes you have to update your BIOS before installing an Intel CPU, but I did not know that until about 10 minutes ago. Is it true? I come from an i3 processor so I would think I would not have to update BIOS for an i5. Anyways, if anyone could help that would be great.

Okay so I can rule out bent pens or a fan error because I just re-installed my old CPU and it booted to desktop just fine. As I have heard I think it may be a BIOS update I need to do. If anyone can tell me how to update my BIOS for an i5-3470 I think that's what I need now.

"I upgraded from an Intel i3-2120 to a Intel i5-3470. My motherboard part number is: 11013301"

When i google that number i get a Lenovo motherboard. If you have a pre-built computer, get support at their website for a bios update.

That's what I just found to. I have looked on their site and it says there is no update. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I have spent the past 45 minutes searching for an update. I'm about to re-install the new CPU and see if it makes a difference. Will post back with results.

Just did it and it still does not work. I'm still thinking it's an update somewhere, but I'm tired of looking for it. Tomorrow I am going to call Lenovo, get the update and start this all over again.

If there are no bios updates for your board, I would think the CPU is just not compatible. You would need to get a new motherboard. Then you would probably also need to get a new copy of windows as well.

Have you tried clearing your cmos after installing the new cpu?
