Okay, I'm sure you've heard of this problem dozens of times. But my computer will not recognize my GPU. I was playing Hitman 2 when the screen went black. I could hear error messages popping up through my speakers but of course, I couldn't see what those were. I tried plugging my HDMI back into my default HDMI slot, but that didn't allow me to see anything. I was forced to turn off my computer by holding the power button. Then I turned it back on. Once it was back on; it booted up just fine using the default GPU. Using the device manager now, my computer refuses to recognize the GPU I know I have installed.

The connection is good in the PC, I've tried to turn it off and turn it back on. I've tried to reinstall the drivers, but in order to install the drivers Nvidia's program needs to find my GPU, which it can't do. Updating drivers won't help me here, it didn't stop working after a restart, it stopped working while using it.

Here's the kicker, this is the second time that this has happened. The first time I was playing Hitman 2 as well. I can see the pattern yes. I've uninstalled Hitman 2 and plan on never playing it again on my PC. But that's besides the point. You might be asking "how did you solve the problem the first time?" Well I didn't. I sent it to a local computer repair guy. He said to me something along the lines of; he turned on my PC with the GPU inside to confirm that it wasn't being recognized. He installed it into a different computer to ensure that it was still working. It did. So he plugged it back into my computer and it magically worked. He didn't have any explanation for how it worked. He sounded surprised.

But now, I've gotten my PC back and crashed during a game of Hitman 2, perfectly replicating the problem the first time around. Any theories out there for what happened?

My GPU is a Geforce GTX 1050Ti, I don't know if the other specifications of my computer matter.

Solution
Remove the card and boot using the motherboard connection. Uninstall all gpu drivers and any firmware. Next try to install the card and see if it displays an image. Also try using a different slot to see if that’s the issue. Make sure the 6+2 cables are in and both go to the psu, no adapter.

Nope, didn't work.
