I recently opened my computer to see what all I have to work with, because I want to upgrade my graphics card. My PC is an Acer Aspire X3400G.

Ever since I opened it up and put it back together, my mouse and keyboard will not get recognized or connect to my pc through any usb port on my tower (these worked fine before I went looking inside my computer).

You might be thinking, at this point, that I damaged something inside the computer when i opened it and that's what's caused my usb port to not recognize my mouse and keyboard... well... this would be the issue if nothing connected through the usb ports. I have tried plugging my speakers, my phone, and my dad's phone into every usb port, and they work and charge just fine.

Now i also made sure to check to see if for some reason both my mice and my keyboard just decided to screw up and stop working entirely, by plugging them into my laptop. They worked as they should.

i posted this on twitter and facebook for extra support: "My mouse and keyboard won't connect through any usb port yet my speakers and phones work fine. (I would like to point out that my computer has to recognize my mouse before it will log me on and get to the home screen.. so I can't do anything that requires me being logged onto my pc for help, since my mouse won't connect) If anyone can help me with my situation, it will be much appreciated."

What is wrong with my computer and what can I do to fix this seemingly rare issue?

I have tried another mouse and it did the same thing where it wouldn't connect to my desktop but it would connect to my laptop.

If deleting/removing the drivers has to do with me able to be logged on and at my Windows home screen, then i can't do it because my computer will search for my mouse before it logs on, but since no mice want to connect, i can't do anything that requires the use of one. With trying other usb ports: i have tried every usb port on my computer to try to connect the mouse and keyboard and they simply don't get recognized in any of them.

again.. no mouse will connect to my computer and therefore I can not even load up windows or anything, as i stated above. is there a way to do this without being logged on to my computer and without a keyboard or mouse (as those are the devices not working)

Take out your HDD from the case and backup your files, erase it and try to install Windows.

And how would I go about doing that? I know some stuff about computers but i'm not all intelligent about everything that has to do with them.

Things you'll need: Screw Driver, a SATA to USB connector, another good PC/ Laptop.
Remove the side panel by removing the screws on the back of your case. If the HDD is caged using screws you'll have to remove those screws too. They will be on the sides of the HDD cage and you might have to remove both side panels. If the HDD is locked in by a lock, this will be easy, just unlock it and pull out your HDD. Remove the SATA power and data cable from the HDD.
Connect the HDD to your functioning Laptop/PC and backup your files. The go to explorer and format the whole disk OR go to disk management and select the HDD and delete all the partitions.Once you delete all the partitions the whole HDD will be displayed in black on the Disk Management window.
Reconnect your HDD to your Acer PC by connecting the SATA power and data cable to their respective ports and screw/lock it back into the HDD cage.
Hit the power button and boot into your windows installation media and try to install Windows.
Once you have started installation, you can put the side panels back on and screw them in securely.
If this helps please select it as the best solution.
Good Luck! :)

I am hesitant to try this due to my worry about not being able to control any of the actions I am to preform whilst reinstalling windows, because my problem is my keyboard and mouse not wanting to connect to my USB ports. and i need to have both working in order to complete the setup. and I just don't see how wiping my HDD will solve this issue... I will think about it, but it will probably be a last resort attempt at a fix.

Okay tell me something then. Connect both mouse and keyboard and go to the BIOS. To go to BIOS hit F2 on your keyboard a few times whilst the Acer logo comes up when powered on. Check if the keyboard works inside the BIOS and let me know. If it does you are good to go for the aforementioned "HDD wipe" method. If not let me know and I'll find out more.

No, I can't get to my BIOS, because my mouse or keyboard won't connect at all. also, when I first turn on my computer, my monitor comes up with a Monitor Status window and it scans for a DVI and/or VGA signal, and when it doesn't get a signal, it just puts the computer to sleep and the monitor goes to rest. The way for it to get a signal is through me wiggling my mouse, but because my mouse won't connect, it doesn't read it.
