Hey guys, I have a MSI Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION ATX LGA and I'm getting a flashing blue light every time I try to use the power button. The computer will not turn on, but I have my power button led lit, as well as the flashing blue led. I have read through a lot of information on this and tried a few things. The strange thing is that I can turn my computer on almost always. Every so often this problem occurs and prevents me from powering up. After tinkering here and there, checking connections, I can usually get it to power on, although I'm never sure what I have done to fix it. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Solution

Nope, nothing. My front panel connectors are in kind of backwards, it's the only way to get the power button led lit, but I've switched them all around several times and tried every combo. Also tried to use a screw driver on the pins. Even tried unplugging everything and trying to fire, still have nothing.

The MSI Krait series has all sorts of problems (IMO). Have you tried swapping out the mobo? If not, I would recommend looking at getting another mobo in the system to see if it solves anything.

But the tricky thing is, is that it could also be a PSU problem (I don't think it would be in this case though). But every time you press that power button, it basically sends loads of voltage through your system, like a slap in the face, but if something is wrong with the motherboard making it unable to carry out the voltage that is essential to the rest of your PC (IE RAM, CPU, GPU, HDD(s)), then it simply won't boot up. Ask me any questions :)

That's what I'm afraid of, Ive never swapped a motherboard, and I'm worried I'll have to do it. Any boards you can recommend? I am not sure if any board will work, or I need a specific few that will work with my system. I don't think I can do anything else trouble shooting wise, without other parts at this point.

Those are some good ones that I have previously built PC's with. Unfortunately that's all I could find for 1150 socket.

Nice ok, so basically I will just have to unplug my stuff, and plug into the same spots in those? Everything appears to be in the same spot as my current board. Sorry, I am just super paranoid about hurting it during the transition.

Yes, exactly, you can do it :). There's no reason to be paranoid, just make sure you're doing everything right.

Good news, although I'm sure it's on its way out, I was able to make the motherboard fire up. I have my computer up and running righ now. I did the two pin jump one last time, just for the hell of it, and everything started right up. I will be looking for a new mobo soon though, and I appreciate all of your help!
