Computing Cables Quality

I have interest in both the sound and computing hardware fields. Both require good quality cables for a good experience, but I find it significantly easier to find good quality, long lasting sound (eg. XLRs, 3.5mm, 1/4" Jack, etc.) cables. I have ended up buying cables that say they are capable of a task, when in fact, the job they say they can do is impossible (eg. passive DVI to HDMI conversion).
So my question here is: what computing cable manufacturers do you recommend, and why?

DVI and HDMI are both digital so I don't know why it's not possible to convert between them...

The only computing cables that I care about the vendor are HDMI and USB cables
