Confirmation for restart/logoff/shutdown?

When accessing the startmenu and press for example restart, the restart will commit directly without any confirmation question. This might be good if that was really what you wanted, but if you by mistake happens to choose logoff instead of switch user it will take lots of time to restart all programs etc.

I know I can change the default setting from Shutdown to for example Switch User, but I wonder if there is any way to get a classic XP confirmation like "Are you sure you want to restart your computer"?

It would take one more click to actually shutdown the computer, but that would be ok for me.

I have looked around some in the local Group Policy settings, but found no place to alter this.

I personal like the fact that I dont have to tell my computer twice that I want to shutdown.

Yes, that is good for you, but I would like to have the possibility to choose this. When I am having twenty programs loaded and if by mistake select Log Off instead of Lock, then I would like to be asked.

Thanks for your reply! The Shutdown Tracker is quite good on Windows Servers, but as you say - it will be a bit overkill on a Windows 7 at home.

Strange if there is no way to alter this. Some kind of choise should be good for both the ones who wish a quick shutdown and those who just wants the confirm first.

I agree with you, but Microsoft designed it the way they did for their own design considerations. If you looked at the MS forums on this subject, you would find many who want the shutdown dialog to work like you want it to who are also looking for a way to do so. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to actually change the OS config as desired. Some like it this way, others don't. I, too, would prefer the choice (for my non-techie wife.....).

For my kids I have actually removed the User Right "shut down the system" on their accounts, so it will not show up any "shutdown" or "reboot" option at all on their accounts, to avoid them rebooting the PC while I having things running too.

Anyway, thanks for your help, it is not the greatest of problems, but a little annoyance that I think should be configurable.

Thanks for your reply. This could be a work-around for this, but I am mostly seeking the possibility to get a confirm if I select "log off" or "restart" and have things running.
