conflict between XP SP2 and Office

Since installing SP2, I keep getting error messages every
time I try to access Office 2000 programs (Usually with
PowerPoint, but also with Word). Windows Installer
launches, then an error message comes up. Clicking "OK"
in the error box causes the Error box to disappear, then
the Windows Installer Box to cancel. The program seems
to work fine, except I can't access the "Help" files.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

PS I followed the instructions for installation to the
letter.
