Hello Everyone,

I am still a beginner with hardware but already got a new pc myself. I wanna buy a pc for my brother who uses an old HP laptop DV6 with i7 2630QM and 2GB AMD 6770m.

He use it for daily work and play some games like World of tanks and Warthunder which are known to use single cpu (world of tanks specially) and not take much advantage of multi core.

Checked online and found lots of topic about the intel pentium G3258 and how cheap and awesome it is, but then I need to waste more on good mobo (for future upgrade), cooler and overclock it. Unfortunately this cpu is not available here and need to order from amazon (i'm living in UAE). Also noticed new topics saying that cpu is obsolete and better get an i3 4160 or an i5 so I can use the system for more years later.

Checked the prices and would still waste more money, so searched for used and found this system and hope you could advise me about it if the price is right.

CPU: i5 3rd generation 3.8 Ghz (should be either 3570 or 3570k will ask the seller)
mobo: GA-Z77X-D3H
ram: 8GB kingston 1600(4gb x2)
gpu: gigabyte gtx 660oc 2gb
hdd: 500gb (will upgrade to ssd 128gb + 1tb myslf)
psu: 600w (not sure what brand)
case: fractal design (not sure which model)

overall cost is around $340 and the system is little used. The prices of i5 processors stays high above $150 even for old generation. Mobo is old 1150 socket but features is good and the gtx660 is old but i can take it out for another system/sell it and buy another gpu. Is the cost of this system fair for being used or would you suggest me to buy new system as what worries me is that if i buy this system i would be stuck with 1150 socket and dunno how long it will stay with me. I can buy newer gpu which is not a problem.

Thank you very much

Solution

it would as that cpu even if u cant overclock it would still run any game even if its almost 3 years old.

that case seems to be fractal r4
PSU is most likely very poor quality and he has no cable management skills
overall its a pretty good deal as case alone is about $100
try lowering it to $300( this is in US dollars your buying it for right?)

Yes it is in US dollar as I converted it from AED. The psu seems junk as you said but I am waiting for his reply regarding cpu, if it is a regular i5 3570 non k would it still be worth it? It would be weird since the mobo is a Z77.

I will try checking the system and run some stress test to check for hardware problems using prime95 and furmark. seems like a good deal as some of these components still keep their price even used.

*update*

just found this second pc which i did ignore at first but what do you think of it?

main.jpeg

Processor: i7 - 3770 3.4 Ghz
Motherboard: Gigabyte (Basic)
8 GB RAM
Asus R9 280X DirectCUII 3GB Graphics Card
750GB HDD (Expandable slots)
CoolerMaster Case
PSU: CoolerMaster 600W
Liteon DVDRW
Windows 8.1

price around $530

still need to check about the motherboard and of course it can't be overclocked.
Thanks :)

it is just i'm in a hurry to have a pc that i'm looking at used full setup. Otherwise I would wait and get good bargains for separate parts. If that pc appear to have correct configuration as mentioned, aside from upgrading gpu would it stay strong for like 2+ years mild gaming?

Thanks alot for the info, i'm really relived now. So just wait to check if the cpu is a k or not for the first setup. And even if it is a non k it would still be a better choice overall right? I guess the i7 is not that important since i'll play some mmorpg and do office work. i7 might be good for video editing.

Great!!
Thank you very much for your help. You replied to me really fast and I didn't expect it to be honest 😛
Thanks a lot and hope I would get the pc today if everything goes well. Cheers!!

no problem although not sure why you would think it could be dishonest these forums are answered by unpaid people who have nothing better to do 😀

lol XD

I just meant I been with this community for sometime and only ask here when I have a problem. Sometimes I get answers after few days. It was just different and quite fast for this topic that is all.

Hopefully soon I would contribute here and answer others rather than just asking 😛
of course being unpaid as well lol

it really depends on the question how fast it gets answered as far as PC builds/hardware those type of questions get answered really fast but once it gets into technical details might take awhile and a lot get ignored i don't want to say stupid questions but you probably know what i mean 😀

yup got it :ange:

have a good day mate !

*update*
talked to seller and got to see the PC. cpu is indeed a 3570k which convinced me more to get the pc. However the PSU was a shit one (Hunterkey brand) 600W which should be immediately changed. He didn't want to lower the price anymore but tried to convince him and told him to take the HDD 500GB for himself as I will buy my own and we agreed on $300 finally. Will take it from him tomorrow 😛.
Oh an the GPU is a gigabyte 660ti and not a normal 660 as I thought.
