Confusing Newegg Shopping Experience

Today I needed a branching SATA power extension cable. Fry's said they had it, then said they could not find it. I placed an order with Newegg. I think it went through. It is shown as shipped in "My Account."

When I thought I'd completed the order, I had a 'process' running in a new tab with this URL:

https://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/CheckoutStep3.aspx?CartID= and some numbers I've redacted for security.

There was a second URL

http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx?submit=ChangeItem

which invited me to proceed to secure checkout.

I gave up and closed the tabs/windows.

Is it always as confusing as this to place a simple order with Newegg?

I tried their chat option but never connected. I tried their email option but encountered "Forbidden" responses when I tried to refine my reason for writing.

As a last resort I'm asking here, is it sometimes simple and straightforward to place an order with Newegg for a simple item like a cable that can't be had locally?

Solution
Secure checkout means your payment account is contacted (credit card, PayPal, whatever) then you have to log back in to Newegg to complete the transaction. That's how it works for me anyway.

The same thing happened to me the first time I used Internet Explorer to make a purchase from Newegg (the javascript post above is making the same point, I think). Your browser probably blocked the pop-up window that is necessary for you to complete the order. That's why the chat line never connected... it depends upon a pop-up also.

I checked with Oracle and they reported "no out of date versions reported."

I vaguely recall allowing a popup when requested. The order did complete. It just left a process running and it left the cart in the "confirm order" state as well.

Yesterday the unattributed tracking number (it is from DHL/USPS wonder service I now know) reported back as unknown.

Today it shows that the shipment is making its tortuous way from Los Angeles to the San Francisco peninsula, say 350 miles. Time will tell.

I hope someone from Newegg follows posts like this. I found them very hard to communicate with.

I think we should close this thread and use our time in better ways than sorting out Newegg's sales interface problems.

Thanks for your input.

Dear baumgrenze,

We are sorry for this experience.

The chat issue may be related to internet browser and its pop-up blocker. If the chat is not uploaded right after you allow the pop-up, please refresh the page and try again. The chat should pop-up without issues since you have already allowed the exception.

Regularly, we would email you with an order confirmation soon after the order is submitted and follow-up communications with the order status, including a tracking number when the package ships. Did you receive these emails?

If you still need assistance checking your order, you can email us to wecare@newegg.com and reference this forum. We'll be happy to look into this and clarify this purchase. You can also call us at 1-800-390-1119.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
Newegg Support

Solution

1) It appears that the order is on its way. The purchase process was suboptimal what with the open window and the confusing cart process.
2) I echo the sentiment voiced by many others on this forum that your use of DHL to consolidate shipments is not in your long-term interest. It may save a few pennies on shipment. It would be better to just charge a bit more and go with a reliable shipping partner like UPS or Fedex. The USPS is OK for stuff that you don't need to track and for items that your customers can wait for until the shipment makes it way through the two step process. I believe that the ill-will (the antithesis of goodwill) that it engenders in your customers far outweighs the small savings.

I hope what I ordered eventually gets here.
